Glen Rock NJ, This morning I learned that on Halloween, sometime between 6AM-5PM, the beautiful bench on the Dunham Trail, paid for by neighbors and friends, was smashed to pieces and ripped off its concrete pad. The wood was smashed and thrown all around. It was a lot of work, so it took time and effort. The police were notified on Thursday.

The Ridgewood Wildscape Association is now offering a $500 reward for information that leads to the arrest, prosecution, and conviction of the person/persons responsible for this outrageous act.

The Dunham Trail is a busy trail, I’ve never been (unless it was very early) without seeing other people enjoying the area, walking dogs, kids taking a short cut to school, etc. So someone must have seen something!

I know there are always incidents of wanton vandalism, after all the Dunham sign was stolen two (2) years ago, and street signs are often taken, but this is particularly mean spirited, as the bench was dedicated to Andy Antista, who revived The Ridgewood Wildscape Association and gave so much of his time to protect our environment.

Members of the Ridgewood Wildscape Association will be submitting a letter to the editor of The Ridgewood News, and speaking during an upcoming Village County meeting to get the word out.

Please pass this on to anyone who you know who walks along the trail.

  1. Why would anybody do something so stupid we finally have people donated time and money trail nice and clean and maintained. We are so lucky to have walking trails like that. And yet these will be the first people that would cry if they decide to build on locations like that.

  2. People who are jacked up on drugs can do stupid things.
    Sickening

  3. it had to be young adults likely trashed on booze or hopped up..very sad
