Westwood NJ, a fresh culinary destination has arrived in Bergen County. Toba Restaurant & Bar has opened its doors in Westwood, New Jersey, offering a bold take on modern American global cuisine, in a sophisticated yet relaxed setting. With every dish crafted entirely by hand, Toba sets a new standard for approachable fine dining in the region.
The stylish 175-seat restaurant features a full-service bar, cozy fireplace, two striking glass-enclosed wine rooms, and a private event space. Guests can also enjoy al fresco dining on the outdoor patio.
At the helm of Toba’s kitchen is Executive Chef Gregory Stott, a semifinalist on Food Network’s Chopped and a seasoned talent with a background in New American, Northern Italian, and French fine dining. Chef Stott has honed his culinary artistry at some of the area’s most acclaimed establishments, including, Café des Artistes, L’Impero and Alto in New York City, and Saddle River Inn and Café Panache in New Jersey.
“What excites me most is not being confined to one cuisine. Today’s palate is far more adventurous than it used to be. By incorporating global flavors into dishes that feel approachable and familiar, I get to push creative boundaries while keeping things approachable,” said Chef Stott. “I’ve always been drawn to the vibrant, fresh and clean flavors of Southeast Asia. They blend beautifully with a variety of cuisines and bring something truly dynamic to the table. If a dish surprises you, and leaves you wanting more, I’ve done my job.”

Toba is the vision of husband-and-wife owners Rumman and Suprihatin Prodhan, whose roots trace back to Bangladesh and Indonesia. The name Toba draws from ancient Indonesian culture, referencing Lake Toba (Danau Toba) in North Sumatra—a sacred volcanic lake revered by the Batak people. Rich in ancestral lore and spiritual symbolism, Lake Toba serves as a cultural and emotional touchstone for the couple and an inspiration for the restaurant’s global soul.
