And for fans in New Jersey and Bergen County, there’s a thrilling local connection to watch for!

Spotting Bergen County History on PBS

The Bergen County Historical Society (BCHS) is reaching out to the community to help spot scenes from the historic New Bridge Landing that were filmed for the documentary.

Film crews were at the historic site in River Edge, NJ, back in August 2024 for two days of filming. The BCHS is confident that parts of the famous complex will appear in the final cut.

Keep an eye out for these iconic locations:

  • The Westervelt Thomas Barn: Look for interior and exterior shots of this structure.

  • The 1752 Steuben House: Scenes featuring the exterior of this state historic site are likely to appear.

The American Revolution was a bloody struggle that grew from a political clash between colonists and the British government into a global conflict involving over two dozen nations. New Jersey, often called the “Crossroads of the Revolution,” played a vital role, and Historic New Bridge Landing was a crucial strategic point.

Join the Conversation: Retreat to Victory Events

The excitement about the documentary is building just in time for the BCHS’s upcoming events! According to BCHS member D. Powell, the Ken Burns series will undoubtedly be the talk of their “Retreat to Victory” events next weekend.

The events are a perfect opportunity to meet local historians, discuss the documentary, and delve deeper into the Revolutionary history that took place right here in Bergen County.

Be sure to tune in tomorrow and let the Bergen County Historical Society know when you spot your favorite local landmark on the national stage!

The series begins tonight, 11/16, 2025, 8/7c. Check your local PBS listings.

  1. Can’t wait even if Burns’ politics are a quite to the left.
