Wyckoff NJ, don’t be alarmed if you spot tree branches shaking or hear buzzing chainsaws around Wyckoff next week — it’s all part of a scheduled maintenance effort to improve local electric service.
Orange & Rockland Utilities has contracted Nelson Tree Service to begin proactive tree trimming starting May 5. The project is designed to prevent power outages by clearing vegetation that may interfere with overhead power lines, the town announced last week.
Why the Tree Work Is Necessary
The trimming initiative is part of a preventative maintenance program intended to boost electric reliability in Wyckoff and surrounding areas. Trees and branches growing too close to utility lines are a leading cause of service interruptions, especially during storms.
“Nelson Tree Service will be working to improve the reliability of our electric service by completing preventative maintenance to vegetation in proximity to the overhead electrical conductors,” officials said in a statement.

What Residents Should Expect
While the work is not expected to cause power outages, temporary lane closures or brief disruptions to traffic may occur in some areas. Residents are encouraged to use caution when driving near work crews.
