At the center of it is Elon Musk and an inner circle working to quickly implement changes to the company and platform. First came the sink. Then firing Parag Agrawal, the now-former CEO. Then the firing of “Rahul Ligma” — which, unsurprisingly, was a prank. Then Musk named himself ,”Chief Twit”

Over the weekend, reports continued circulating about potential layoffs, which are now widely expected. Throughout, Musk has tweeted some updates, including plans for the formation of a content moderation council.

Musk changed Twitter’s homepage less than 24 hours after completing his acquisition of the company. The home page now redirects to the Explore page. Musk also ordered that the paid subscription feature be renamed to Subscriptions. These sorts of changes would have taken weeks of discussion to implement in the old Twitter. Musk fired top execs ‘for cause’ to avoid paying out the stock that they would otherwise receive. Managers are now deciding which staff will be laid off.

Twitter engineers have been tasked with creating an updated version of Vine that could launch before the end of the year. The company acquired Vine back in 2012 but shut it down in 2016. Elon Musk tweeted a poll asking if he should bring back Vine and 69.5% of the respondents said yes. A rebooted version of Vine could compete with TikTok.

More than 50 Tesla employees are working on Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover. Most of the employees are software engineers from the Autopilot team. Many people close to Musk are involved with the deal and are tasked with deciding who and what to cut or keep. The Tesla employees are to learn everything about Twitter as quickly as possible so that Musk can redesign the platform. It is unclear how the employees are expected to split their schedules between their normal duties and Twitter.

Twitter has also taken away certain content moderation and policy enforcement tools from some employees ahead of the U.S. midterm elections, according to Bloomberg News.

No news on whether Musk plans to bring back the whale?
