FAIR LAWN, NJ — A late-night traffic stop by Fair Lawn police led to the arrest of two men and the discovery of a loaded 9mm handgun, crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and nunchucks in the parking lot of Advance Auto Parts on River Road.
According to Sgt. Eric Eleshewich of the Fair Lawn Police Department, Officer Matthew Hearon approached a suspicious white Acura at 1:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 18 after noticing the vehicle’s occupants behaving erratically and reaching under the seats.
The vehicle was parked in the Advance Auto Parts lot at 18-37 River Road.
What Police Discovered
After both men exited the car abruptly, a search turned up a disturbing array of illegal items:

Springfield Armory XD-9 9mm handgun

High-capacity magazine
-
15 hollow-point rounds
-
Nunchucks

Two baggies of crack cocaine

Six crack pipes and other drug paraphernalia
Arrests & Charges
Shaun P. Reed, 44, of Pompton Lakes, was taken into custody and charged with multiple weapons and drug offenses, including:

Unlawful possession of a handgun

Possession of hollow-point ammunition

Possession of a high-capacity magazine
-
Possession of a prohibited weapon (nunchucks)

Possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS)

Possession of drug paraphernalia
Reed was booked into the Bergen County Jail.
Michael P. Durant, 40, of Paterson, was charged with:

Possession of a controlled dangerous substance

Possession of drug paraphernalia
Durant was found to have an active arrest warrant and was turned over to Paterson Police.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities said the handgun will be tested to determine if it is connected to other crimes or shootings in the area.
