TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON, BERGEN NJ, The Volunteer Ambulance Corps is proud to share with the township that the community has gained nine new EMTs, all of whom have graduated this year.  This is a marked increase from 2016 when the Township gained 1 EMT and 3 EMTs in 2018.

Starting in January 2019, the Corps celebrated the graduation of EMT Lindsey M. Sirois, who quickly became very active with the Corps, from Initial Training.  She was almost immediately seen on 911 calls as a member of various duty crews, and has already been previously featured in the news for her part in speaking to local Girl Scouts about the Ambulance Corps.  Sirois is a senior at Westwood Regional HS, and came with prior experience as lifeguard, swim coach and instructor, positions she continues to thrive in simultaneously.

Also hailing from the January class is EMT David L. Tarshik, who recently came to the squad after completing his Initial Training.  Tarshik comes with prior experience as a first-responder: he has been serving in paid positions with commercial ambulance companies since he completed his training, and also has two years’ experience as a Rescue Technician in Paramus, all positions he continues to serve in.

In June 2019, the Corps celebrated once again as EMTs Trevor J. Landau, Jacqueline Hartmann, Jenny Hoyos, and Michael DiCuia graduated from their Initial Training.  Landau is a life-long township resident and is employed as a technology consultant. Hartmann is a student at the Immaculate Heart Academy, Township, while Hoyos and DiCuia are students of Westwood Regional High School.

Of note, Landau also won the Director Robert L. Chais Memorial Excellence Award for achieving the highest academic average of all sections of the Spring 2019 Semester.

Lastly, graduating from the 2019 Summer Session were Alexa Connelly, Joseph Chang, and Mark Ayob.  Connelly is a senior at Westwood Regional High School and the daughter of the WWRHS Principal. Chang and Ayob are students at the Bergen County Academics and Bergen Co. Technical Schools respectively.

The Corps has been consistently seen around various town venues recruiting new members.  In the past year, Corpsmembers have been seen at events organized at the local shopping center, summer time concert series, high school lunch hour, and football games.  Likewise, the Corps extends it’s deepest appreciations all those who have hosted it’s recruiting events.

As always, the Corps needs additional members, any person interested in volunteering their time can find our application online at www.wtvac.org or call us at 201-664-3784. Lastly, the Corps also has loan-out medical equipment available to residents of the Pascack Valley, anyone in need of free equipment may contact Naomi @ 201-474-5626.
