Twp. of Washington NJ, a public hearing will take place at the June 18th, 2025, Planning Board Meeting beginning at 7:00pm (hybrid meeting) on the proposed 2025 Housing Element and Fair Share Plan for the Township of Washington.
This 2025 Township of Washington, Bergen County, New Jersey Housing Element and Fair Share Plan (HE&FSP) of the Master Plan is designed to address the manner in which the Township will fulfill its 4th Round affordable housing obligations. These obligations and the way in which they are addressed are derived from a variety of sources including regulatory provisions of the Council on Affordable Housing (COAH), a prior settlement agreement with Fair Share Housing Center (FSHC), and the recent legislation on the 4th Round of the “affordable housing” issue and associated calculations by the Department of Community Affairs (DCA).
In March 2024 the Governor and State Legislature enacted significant legislation amending the New Jersey’s Fair Housing Act (FHA). It established new, streamlined, transparent, and more effective procedures, standards, and mechanisms for the continued implementation of the Mount Laurel Doctrine, New Jersey’s constitutional requirement that all municipalities must provide their fair share of needed affordable
housing.
