Newark NJ, a United Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport on Monday afternoon due to a possible mechanical issue, the airline confirmed.
United Airlines Flight 1321, a Boeing 777 bound for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), landed safely at Newark at approximately 1:30 PM, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the 362 passengers and 10 crew members onboard.
United Airlines issued a statement saying, “We have arranged for a different aircraft to take our customers to Los Angeles this afternoon.” The airline emphasized that safety remains their top priority.
FAA Equipment Issues Cause Additional Delays at Newark Airport
Separately, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported a ground stop affecting arrivals and departures at Newark Liberty International Airport Monday afternoon. The delay stemmed from equipment issues at the Philadelphia TRACON, which manages airspace operations in the region.
According to a Port Authority spokesperson:
“This FAA equipment issue resulted in a ground stop, with very limited flights departing or arriving at Newark since approximately 1:30 PM. Flight activity is expected to resume slowly while the equipment issue is being resolved.”
As of 3:30 PM, the FAA reported:

Average departure delay: 90 minutes (and increasing)
By 4:00 PM, FlightAware data showed 199 flight delays and 18 cancellations at Newark Airport.
