Ridgewood NJ, a recent Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request made by a Ridgewood taxpayer has uncovered a history of unwarranted purchases of bottled/cooler water made by the staffs of two Ridgewood elementary schools.

Purchases of bottled/cooler water dispensed from nurses’ offices at the Ridge and Orchard elementary schools were found to have been unwarranted following a review of months worth of invoices associated with those purchases. Water cooler service was canceled for the 2025/2026 school at both schools as a result of the review.

Water cooler service at the Glen School  will continue into the 2025/2026 school year as it is mandated by state law due to the enrollment of preschoolers at that facility.

No other schools in the Ridgewood Public Schools system were found to have contracted for water cooler service other than Glen, Orchard, and Ridge.

Questions remain as to how and why the unwarranted purchase of bottled/cooler water at Orchard and Ridge  was not discovered during routine financial/operational audits.

  1. Ridgewood elementary schools, where bottled water is unwarranted but having a DEI committee is absolutely necessary.

    1. Solutions are immediate:

Like the The boomers and older and perhaps
young athletes & students can line up at a water fountains at athletic fields school events ( at end of every hall )and at hockey and ball fields drink to their fills..

  2. I remember a few years back they were having water delivery at Village Hall, I don’t know why what’s wrong with the Ridgewood water. Most of the employees been drinking it for 30 years and I know for a fact in some of the village facilities they remove the water cooler Why?

    1. They still get water deliveries. I’ve seen the truck.

  3. what else are they doing illegally?

  4. This is an abhorrent use of funds by 2 *west side* schools. Do they think they are better than everyone else?

    1. Let the school kids drink the crap from the water fountains and the staff get to drink spring water

    2. they pay more in taxes to subsidize those on the east…

  5. Why spend money on water. We own a water company

  6. Is this a joke? I think we have bigger fish to fry here…

    1. The key question is how many other unauthorized purchases have escaped the auditors?

  7. No, it’s not a joke, why the hell are we spend the money on a water delivery service, when we own a water company that serves four towns. We look like real fools. That’s like the CFOs of a car company making ford trucks let’s say, and that company goes and buys Nissans, what is going on?

  8. I remember 25 years ago the water was amazing. You couldn’t stop drinking now. I don’t know what the hell’s going on with the water in the past seven years or so it’s not the same.

    1. Now it’s artisanal water…………………

If you don’t appreciate the subtle hints of flavor…………………………

  9. Maybe the top officials no more what’s going on that being said, maybe all the pipes are rusted. Remember every village building is very old. Who knows what’s in those pipes. Maybe more contamination. Look at the building on chestnut Street, you wanna talk about contamination everything from 220 Chestnut St. right down to Robinson to Oak, do you know how much diesel fuel got in the ground? remember when the tanks were leaking diesel fuel for a long time and they were filling up a few basements of peoples homes on Oak Street, and the village had to purchase one of them. Can you imagine how much diesel people got into the water supply. that’s a situation that happened around 1990. I’m sure it’s documented by the EPA and the fire department because everyone else is retired, or passed away

  10. They have water delivered at Cottage place also, but just on certain floors
