New York NY, August 30, 2025 — Nationwide — Thousands of Verizon Wireless customers across the U.S. experienced major service outages on Saturday after the telecom giant reported a software issue disrupting wireless connectivity in multiple states.

Verizon customers across the U.S. Saturday reported issues with the network on their cellphones, with some saying that their devices have been limited to SOS mode for several hours. Customers began reporting problems shortly after 12 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday, according to DownDetector’s data. The number of reports peaked around 3:30 p.m. ET.

Reports of dropped calls, failed texts, and no data access began surfacing shortly after 12 p.m., according to outage tracker Downdetector.com. By 9 p.m., nearly 23,000 outage reports had been logged, with major cities hit hardest, including:

  • Los Angeles

  • Chicago

  • Orlando

  • Tampa

  • Atlanta

  • Minneapolis

  • Omaha

  • Indianapolis

  • New York

At 7:14 p.m., Verizon Support acknowledged the issue publicly on X (formerly Twitter), confirming:

“We are aware of a software issue impacting wireless service for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and we are working quickly to identify and solve the issue.”

The company also directed customers to its Check Network Status page for real-time updates. Verizon apologized for the disruption, stressing the importance of restoring service quickly as millions depend on its network for work, school, and emergency communication.

Customers Frustrated by Long Wait

The delay between the first outage reports and Verizon’s official acknowledgment — nearly seven hours — drew criticism online. Social media quickly filled with frustrated users demanding transparency and faster response times from the carrier.

What’s Next?

As of late Saturday, Verizon had not given an official timeline for full service restoration but confirmed teams were continuing to investigate and deploy fixes.
