>Village Council members are expected to unanimously approve a resolution
authorizing the auction of a new “consumption” liquor license during their
scheduled August 8 Public Meeting.
Minimum bid for the license will be $600K. Among the conditions expected to
be mandated by the Council are:
1) A minimum 65%/35% restaurant to bar ratio
2) License must be used in an area currently zoned for restaurants
3) A 10% cash deposit required along with any bid
4) Proposed licensee must past standard police background checks
The most recent Village Council sanctioned auction of a new liquor license
(within the past few years) attracted no bidders; that’s correct, not a
single bidder.
>Maybe they will use the money to pay for the Dam repairs, instead of raising taxes to fix it.
But they will piss it away on some jerky project like trying to waterproof the Village hall parking lot.
>One (1)?
Why not 2-3 at $400-$500k each.
Raise some money not taxes.
They may think that Marra’s will become a hangout for bikers if they sell too many liquor licenses.
By the way who gets the $600k.
Police, village hall, BOE, the town services group?
>$600K? no wonder they don’t get any takers. that’s a lotta moola. i remember years ago when restaurant owners were moaning at a $250K pricetag.
>7:02
Years ago a beer was $1.25 too.
But you’re right.
They should sell 2-3 more at 400-500,000 each.
>SELL A FEW LIQUOR LICENSES.
Let’s be constructive here.
How much does it cost to issue a license?
But they could bring in $600k -or more each.
New roof–fix dam—new cars.$$$$
I wouldn’t mind going to a GOOD restaurant in town and not have to worry about having my own wine.
>what ever happenned to the exisiting license that was @ espositos restaurant? My understand is that ridgewood prohibited ‘pocket licenses'(=Owner of license MUST have a place of business OPEN rather than keep the license in their pocket as an investment?) So is that license still available?
>Well, if there were no bidders at $600k, doesnt that suggest that a liquor license is not worth that amount? If the objective is to raise $600k (for whatever reason), it might make sense to sell 2 at $300k each. Maybe that will garner some interest.
>8:15
WOW Espo’s now that goes back in time.
I think the Office and Blends have opened since the days of Espo’s
What’s Smith going to do at his place?
>The more liquor licenses you sell the more money Ridgewood brings in to purchase more police cars to nab more drunks in town. yeahhhhhhhhhhhh
>Talk about the price of a beer going up — what about a mixed drink? Everytime I order sex on a beach or a buttery nipple I get fleeced.
>9:22
PJ, you’re not susposed to post here.
We know you had a good time on the beach. Stop bragging.
Next time go to Belmar and get your drinks on land instead of the beach.
>And now with the new, expensive, signs at the courthouse, the drunks can pay the fines they get sooner.
>espos was a local fun hangout. I believe the ‘office’ license originated from a place called the ‘brass lamp’ that was on the same block. The Blend license was the end of the russian white house/chester drawers/cellar door’ history.. so the Espositos license is still MIA…
>$600,000 license MIA?
Anyone?
>600k former espos license IS MIA….. i dont want to start any ‘rumors’ here…but the ex-esposito license was ‘allegedly’ obtained by the owner of a piece of real estate that abuts the former establishemnt. whether that purchase or espos landlords non-renewal of a lease contributed to that closing of the restaurant i do not know. however that RE owner supposedly owned a pizza place where he ‘hung’ the license in order to meet the letter of the law (=no pocket licenses) so it would be deemed ‘active’. Perhaps someone with more info can add to this…
>A bit of boozing history. Espos got their license from an eatery that formerly stood where there is now a nursing home on franklin tpke. They got the license cheap(good timing since the drinking age was just reduced from 21 to 18) AFTER that…the law was changed (i think) to prevent further ‘pocket licenses’-lic holder NOT using the license for the benefit of the community..since in NJ…unlike other states..the NUMBER of licenses is LIMITED by population). THe council possibly issued a new license for Winberries which was rumored to have paid 300,000 which at that time was astronomical.. so the license(s) historically in the village are/were@ same locations: Smith bro, McMurphys, office, blend, elks club. espos lic-mia
>Population statement if true, then the town should reaply for more since the town now has 25,000 people.
I think Mahwah has more licences and less population.
The town should put some effort into trying to get more licences to make some quick money.
>I think the town should open a bar at village hall.plenty of parking.we need a go go bar.
>Pfund confirmed at the Council meeting that they have only one license to sell; state regulations.
>Just what we need 7:15 PM —- a bunch of drunken village idiots.
>how about a bunch of bloger idiots.1.06pm.you bum.
>how about you be lax, chill, bottoms up 3:34pm, pal
>Lighten up you JOs everyone should have a chance to joke on the blog.
You guys are coming close to BLOG RAGE.
The Fly is listening and he may tell PJ to eliminate you.
>i think mebee were all idiots in this town.idiots for putting up with idiots.
>Let’s get that liquor license sold and put $600K into the coffers! Belly up to the bar boys!!!
