Pursuant to the requirements of the Open Public Meetings Act,

The purpose of this Special Public Meeting is to discuss and review the 2013 Annual Budget with various Department Directors.
Formal action may be taken by the Village Council at this Special Public Meeting.
All public meetings of the Ridgewood Village Council (Public Work Sessions, Public Meetings, and Special Public Meetings) are always open to members of the general public.

yea this 0 % is not the way to go. we think that it will hurt the village. the village can not go after any more of the work force like they did in 2010. if they need to lay off workers, well it will be time for the police and fire.
end of the story.
time to cut the fat in the police and fire dept. I would start with the over time budget’s big money, it must be a good half mil. what a waste.
There is no fat in the PD the bones are showing The ot budget in the pd is nowhere near 1/2 mill, The last time I was at the deli I heard the cops saying it was $170,000
Are you kidding???? You overheard a cop talking at the deli???? That is the basis of you opinion???
The Ridgewood Police Department is the the most bloated department in town, in terms of cost per employee. The fat that needs to be trimmed is in the form of inflated or redundant compensation or benefit terms in the contracts.
The concept that some people need to understand is that today’s “baseline” for the police is inflated. So, reducing it is not “going after” the police. It is returning comp and benefits to a reasonable level for the job the police perform that taxpayers can afford. It is the exact discussion and dynamic that is taking place at a state and federal level…federal entitlements have grown to to 67% of the budget, from the mid-40% a few years ago. When Obama leaves office, the same entitlements are expected to be about 71% of the budget. If this does not change across the country and in Ridgewood, there will be dire consequences for both.
Lets all show up to the budget meetings and make sure what they are saying is truth and not rhetoric.
Why don’t you call village hall and see what the ot budget actually is? It’s public record. If the cop was correct and the town paid 170000 in ot why not hire another cop or 2 the starting salary is around 35000 plus benifits toatal cost 50000 per guy. That would sinificantly cut down on ot. Furthermore the “cop” that was talkin in the deli is in a position to know what the ot cost is.
Police Dept. Overtime
2009 $136,954.73
2010 106,950.45
2011 $184,855.40
2012 $151,555.78
Draw your own conclusions.
To be fair # 7 why don’t you post the same for the Fire Dept?
The cop in the deli wasn’t too far off.
Time to hire some bodies.
How come there are so many derogatory remarks said about the police and nothing is ever said about how many bodies we have sitting in the 2 fire houses. I guess out of sight out of mind. I mean really how many fires do we have in Ridgewood?
yes hire more workers .but the cops would cry the blues. because they are all so cheep.and yes what is the fire dept over time. the fire and police should be a good 300grand to 425grand. and yet we have dept’s in town down to shit.this is bull shit.
hey what ever happen’ed to the meeting with the mayor and council and the workers.
Yoy didn’t think that was really gonna happen, do you?
From what I read I can see a definate anti cop bias. But overall the people posting vent about public employees in general. There is a vast majority of people who have a har-on for what the public workers make. This gets inflamed when cops tell you what you can and cannot do or ticket you for what the public thinks are bull sh-t infractions. Reading post’s here and on the patch people write about pedestrian safety but I would bet if one of those people who posted got a ticket for failure to yield they would be the first to bash the cop’s as being useless and overpaid.
Love the stock photo of the Captain Morgan truck in front of Village Hall that you always use…..not very subliminal!!!
to # 14 well it should right . o well time to go to the press.
