  1. >Is this legal?!

  2. >Anyone know our district laws about teachers charging a fee to tutor some kids in the same school they teach in? Are they allowed to use school facilities to hold their private tutoring side jobs? The Tenafly BOE has very specific rules on this but I can’t find any in the Ridgewood BOE website.

  3. >It is often the case that an administrator can retire from a teacher retirement
system in one state, and work without suffering a reduction of benefits in a
different state, while qualifying for additional benefits under the second
state’s retirement system. This creates windfall profits for the individual.
His five year contract with Ridgewood probably tracks nicely with the time
needed to vest in the new system.

Personal profit is likely what motivated him to take the job. Typically,
these guys are not looking for anything other than to maintain the status quo.
They are not in any mood to be change agents, they just want to collect both
checks and enjoy the ride at the taxpayer’s expense.

  4. >Maybe some of you should get REAL jobs and work long hours. Try being a ditch digger in the summer.
Some people need to work more then one job to make ends meet. Like paying for 2 kids in college.

Double dipping ( being on the clock from one employer while collecting for time from another) should not be allowed.

  5. >What do you mean “should not be allowed?” By whom? If someone can get an arrangement like that, and it’s not a “secret” or doesn’t violate the terms of one’s employment contract that you signed, go for it! College is expensive!

  6. >One of the parents who spoke out against TERC at a BOE meeting said that when her child’s teacher failed to teach her child math, she was hired by the parent as a tutor to teach the child math. And the teacher still failed to be able to teach the child math. The teacher should not have charged to do a job as a tutor that should should have been done right in the first place. As a former teacher, myself, I can’t imagine why she didn’t offer her time after school, at no charge, to help her own student.

  7. >Isn’t Michael Barker our tax collector?
