Westwood NJ, the Westwood Regional School District has undergone a sudden change in leadership, with Frank Connelly, the principal of Westwood Regional High School, assuming the role of acting superintendent.
This unexpected announcement was conveyed in a letter to the district community on Tuesday. While the letter did not provide details on Superintendent Jill Mortimer’s absence or its duration. The district stated that Connelly would take over the K-12 district’s top administrative position immediately. Mortimer, who had previously announced her retirement this summer, has faced medical leaves over the past two years but returned in July.
Connelly will retain his role as high school principal, and Bronwen Calderón, the district’s director of secondary education, will serve as acting assistant superintendent.
The letter expressed confidence in their ability to lead with integrity, dedication, and a focus on the best interests of students and the community. Mortimer, who has 31 years of experience in education, worked in the Westwood regional district for nine years, serving students in Westwood and Washington Township. She had hoped that a suitable replacement would be found by July 1, but she was open to delaying her exit if the search extended beyond expectations. Mortimer went on medical leave in early 2022, and the district was temporarily led by interim Superintendent Kenneth Rota, who resigned abruptly in June amid controversies. Mortimer returned from leave the same month.

Hopefully Frank Connelly will lower the temperature in the room and bring us back to teaching math, science, history of this great country without the woke, diversity, changing sex talk to young children. As “Dr” Mortimer said last year about protecting our children, her error, the key word is “children” (doesn’t go with her agenda) until these students are out of high school they are classified as children and young adults with virtually no life experiences. Parents need to be on board protecting their children, guiding them through the challenges.
