Washington DC, in the first press briefing of President Donald Trump’s second administration, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the mystery drones that created a stir across New Jersey and the East Coast in late 2024.
Leavitt confirmed the drones were authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for legitimate purposes, including research and recreational use.
FAA Authorization Clarified
“I do have news directly from the president of the United States, shared with me in the Oval Office,” Leavitt announced during the briefing. “After research and study, the drones that were flying over New Jersey in large numbers were authorized to be flown by the FAA for research and various other reasons.”
She also noted that many of the drones were operated by hobbyists and private individuals, adding that public curiosity contributed to the increased sightings. Leavitt assured citizens, “This was not the enemy.”
Drone Activity Sparked Speculation
The drone sightings, first reported on Nov. 19 by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, led to temporary flight restrictions in New Jersey. The areas affected included Bedminster, home to President Trump’s golf club, and the Picatinny Arsenal military base.
Trump’s Previous Comments on Drone Activity
In December, Trump implied that the Biden administration was withholding information about the drones.
“They know where it came from and where it went,” Trump said at the time. “Our military knows, and our president knows. For some reason, they want to keep people in suspense.”
Timeline of Events
The sightings, which persisted through November and December, raised public concerns and drew attention to national security. However, Leavitt’s clarification highlights that the drones were neither hostile nor foreign in origin.
What’s Next?
As the FAA continues to manage and oversee drone operations, further details may emerge about the research and projects linked to these flights. For now, the mystery of the New Jersey drones has been laid to rest, with assurance from the White House that they were operated within legal bounds.

And before anyone criticizes this admin and says ‘what do you mean research? that’s not an answer!’ They ain’t lying. They were for research. They were researching you. Like when an ethologist introduces a strange element to an animal’s environment. I supposed they could have handed out lollis for your participation but it wasn’t in the budget.
Amazing how he promises real answers and then we get this horseshit.
It’s just a lack of self-awareness. Billionaires care as much about you as you do for the guys who clean your gutters.
A non-answer. The drones can fly anywhere in NJ except over Bedminster
wrong , but nice try
PJ on drone watch ….hehehehe
Why couldn’t the previous administration tell us this? The main concern was foreign surveillance. That was addressed. Quite frankly, I’m really enjoying the breath of fresh air and transparency of this administration. The Left is fumbling in their criticism.
