Bergen County Cold Cases Still Haunt North Jersey

Palisades Park NJ, or 15 years, two horrific and strikingly similar murders in Bergen County have remained unsolved. The killings of Dolores Alliotts in Palisades Park and Joan Davis in Teaneck, who lived just five miles apart, share a chilling connection: the perpetrator set fire to both residences immediately after the homicide in an attempt to destroy the crime scene.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cold Case Task Force remains dedicated to cracking the case, believing the key to justice lies in the memory of a single community member.
“The key to unlocking this case, and finally bringing closure to the victims’ families, may reside in the memory of a single community member,” Deputy Chief of Detectives Jeff Angermeyer told Patch. “It is never too late to do the right thing and help us deliver the justice these families so desperately deserve.”
The Crimes: Brutality and Fire
The timeline and method of the two homicides are unnervingly parallel:
| Victim & Location | Date | Details of Attack | Evidence |
| Dolores Alliotts (69), Palisades Park (261 12th St.) | April 28, 2010 | Died from blunt force injuries and 55 stab wounds. | The killer lit a fire inside the home to cover the murder. |
| Joan Davis (74), Teaneck (976 Alpine Dr.) | August 2010 (Approx. 4 months later) | Found bound by hands and feet, victim of blunt force injuries and multiple stab wounds. | The killer also lit a fire; surveillance video captured the suspect walking away. |
Detectives believe the killer is a single man, potentially a young adult under 160 pounds, who wore a size 9-10 shoe. Surveillance video released years later showed the suspect walking toward Joan Davis’ house carrying a “satchel-style backpack.”
Lingering Questions and Victims’ Lives
Both women lived alone, and detectives have publicly stated they believe the killings are related, with some speculation that the perpetrator may have had a fetish for older women, as little was taken from the homes.
-
Dolores Alliotts was a lifelong resident of Palisades Park. Investigators once suggested the killer may have had previous interactions with her.
-
Joan Davis was a political activist and a former U.S. Agency for International Development employee who was known for attending nearly every town meeting in Teaneck.
Despite the 15 years that have passed, the biggest questions remain: How did the killer know both women, who lived in different towns and had no known connection? And is the perpetrator still living in North Jersey?

There must be some DNA evidence.
If the perp isn’t in the criminal DNA database there ARE ways to match relatives and narrow it down
