The National Weather Service has officially upgraded our region to a Winter Storm Warning, which remains in effect until 1:00 PM today, Saturday, December 27, 2025
the staff of the Ridgewood blog
Ridgewood NJ, following a heavy overnight snowfall that saw rates of up to 2 inches per hour, our local Department of Public Works (DPW) and emergency services are working around the clock. To ensure the safety of all residents and to allow for efficient snow removal, the Village has issued the following mandatory safety protocols.
🚗 Parking and Travel Restrictions
-
Overnight Parking Suspended: Per Village code, all overnight street parking is strictly prohibited during a winter storm. Vehicles remaining on the street interfere with snowplows and will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.
-
Stay Off the Roads: Road conditions remain slick and hazardous, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Please drive only if absolutely necessary to allow emergency vehicles and salt trucks clear passage.
❄️ Snow Removal Guidelines
-
Do NOT Shovel Snow into the Street: It is illegal and dangerous to throw snow back into the roadway after it has been plowed. This creates ice patches and hazardous obstacles for other drivers.
-
Clear Fire Hydrants: If you have a hydrant near your property, please shovel a 3-foot perimeter around it. In the event of a fire, every second counts.
-
Keep Intersections Clear: Avoid piling snow at corners, as this creates “blind spots” for motorists and pedestrians.
⚠️ Power Outages and Downed Lines
With heavy, wet snow weighing down tree limbs, power interruptions are possible.
-
Downed Trees & Power Lines: Treat all downed wires as live and dangerous. Stay at least 30 feet away and keep children and pets indoors.
-
Reporting Outages: Do not call 911 for power loss. Please call PSE&G directly at 800-436-7734 or report via their mobile app.
-
Safety Barricades: Residents are strictly prohibited from removing police line tape, cones, or barricades. These are in place for your protection.
📞 Who to Call
-
Life-Threatening Emergencies: Dial 911 immediately.
-
Non-Emergent Police Matters: Please use the local non-emergency line to keep 911 dispatchers available for life-safety calls.

Everything looks so beautiful nice and clean bright wait until it all melts and you see all the black leaves breaking down on your curb line and in the street. It could’ve been avoided with working more overtime.👍
Get over yourself. The leaf team did an amazing job this year. Even cleaning up after the slob two doors down after they put them out late.
the slob across the street from me didnt even finish their leaves. lazy sh## makes his wife do it with an electric blower with the power of a hairdryer. some people should move back to the apartments they came here from
If that was nine inches I must be a ruler with 12 inches
