HACKENSACK , NJ — Train service on NJ Transit’s Pascack Valley Line has resumed after a tragic incident in Hackensack Thursday morning, in which a woman was fatally struck by a commuter train, officials confirmed.
According to NJ Transit, the incident occurred just before 10 a.m. when Pascack Valley Line Train 1651 — which departed Hoboken at 9:34 a.m. — struck a female pedestrian trespassing near Sussex Street and Railroad Avenue, close to Essex Street Station.
The train had been scheduled to arrive at New Bridge Landing station in River Edge at 10:01 a.m. The victim’s identity has not been released.
Authorities said none of the five passengers or crew members aboard the train were injured.
As a result of the accident, service was temporarily suspended in both directions between Wood-Ridge and New Bridge Landing stations. By late morning, normal operations had resumed.
The New Jersey Transit Police Department is actively investigating the incident.
