THE RECORD
WYCKOFF — Township officials are criticizing Ridgewood Water management after receiving calls upon calls from residents suddenly facing thousands of dollars in back fees because the utility hasn’t been able to accurately gauge water use for years.
In a process that has accelerated over the past four years, Ridgewood Water, which serves more than 20,000 customers in Glen Rock, Midland Park, Ridgewood and Wyckoff, has been modernizing its meter system. And that has resulted in updating its books and finding out that some customers haven’t paid enough and others have paid too much.
The utility’s old metering was through wiring hooked into telephone landlines. Modern metering will rely on radio frequency monitoring, which lets employees take readings by driving through a neighborhood.

What ever happen to their law suit against the water co and the Village of Ridgewood?
Wyckoff never stops pissing and moaning.
It’s ok for United water to charge what they want and make a profit but for some reason ridgewood water is supposed to supply cheap waget to these crybabies .
There is always the option of drilling your own well.
Is everyone getting much higher than normal bills? I am. My last two bills have been in the $500 range, which is multiple times higher than it should be based upon historic billing. I’ve had a plumber come out (at my expense) after both bills and he confirmed that there are no leaks (i.e. toilets, sprinklers, etc.). I contacted Ridgewood Water, and both times, I get the “everything with your billing and meter looks okay”. I have never had estimated bills, and my bills are based upon actual meter readings, so I know it’s not a case of catching-up when estimates suddenly turn into actual readings. Does anyone know what alternative avenue I can take? Ridgewood Water clearly has no incentive to seriously look at the issue. They are a monopoly and are really only incentivized by making as much money as they can. The longer I live in NJ, the more and more my confidence levels decrease in our Government-related services, with their non-stop stories of incompetence, fraud, laziness, nepotism, cronyism, etc. I sometimes think I might be better of moving to Nigeria!
.My meter reading has been on radio monitoring for several years now and i have no complaints. Why is it those of you who do complain do not take your own actions instead of waiting for mommy Wyckoff to do it for you.
The water company has been estimating bills since 2006 for some people. 2006! The thing we should be talking about is HOW this was allowed to happen. No real business would be run this way. First we had the the scandal with the parking meter guy stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from Ridgewood. Now this. At the very least, we should be firing people.
Declan move Nigeria! no one stopping you.Have a nice trip.Write the blog when you get there and let us know how thing are going.
What a way to run a business.
Hey Declan stop using the sprinkler system and running a laundromat . My bill is usually 200
just pay the bill.
