Ramsey NJ, the Ramsey Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire that engulfed a classic car on the first floor of the New Jersey Transit parking garage. Upon arrival, Deputy Chief Jim Dougherty confirmed a working fire and immediately took command of the scene.
The first engine on the scene quickly connected to a hydrant and deployed two 1-3/4″ attack lines to control the blaze. As more units arrived, additional manpower was brought in to assist with the final extinguishment and overhaul. Smoke spread rapidly throughout the four floors of the garage, prompting Chief Dougherty to request specialized equipment—a fan boat from Mahwah Fire Company 1 was brought in to help clear the thick smoke. Additionally, the air cascade unit from Mahwah Co. 3 was dispatched to refill air cylinders, along with assistance from Ramsey Rescue.
Once the fire was fully extinguished, firefighters discovered that the vehicle involved was a 1960s Rolls Royce, a true piece of automotive history. Unfortunately, the car was declared a total loss. Thankfully, no other vehicles were damaged, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but the swift and professional response from the Ramsey FD helped prevent further damage. Kudos to the first responders for their quick action and teamwork in handling the situation!

Ironically no one uses that garage…10% occupancy much like the garage in Ridgewood.
James, How can one access the video of the September 10, 2024 Ridgewood Fields Committee Meeting? I’ve tried but can’t locate it.
Thank you.
