Ridgewood NJ , The driver of a 4 door sedan was found semi-conscious on the front lawn of a home in the 200 block of Lincoln Avenue in Ridgewood following the crash of his vehicle into a tree on Wednesday afternoon. Ridgewood PD, EMS, and Fire Department personnel, along with paramedics from The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, responded to the scene after being notified of the accident by an off-duty Ridgewood police officer who was in the area at the time of the incident.
The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Transmission fluid from the vehicle spilled onto the front lawn of a nearby home; fire department personnel quickly contained the spill. Entry to the vehicle for purposes of conducting a search of its contents was only possible after the “Jaws of Life” were used to open a door. Following the accident, unofficial reports were that the vehicle’s driver would be charged with DUI and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

Boehner’s House Has Increased Debt $18,944 Per Household
By Terence P. Jeffrey
December 18, 2012
(CNSNews.com) – Under the leadership of House Speaker John Boehner (R.-Ohio), the 112th House of Representatives has thus far approved legislation that has increased the debt of the federal government by $2,176,949,774,695.46—or approximately $18,944 for per American household.
The 112th House of Representatives has achieved this in a little more than 20 months time—and it may not be done yet enacting laws to approve new federal borrowing and spending.
The 112th House came into power on Jan. 5, 2011, electing Rep. John Boehner as its speaker on that day.
“Sucre bleu!” : France warms to Gérard Depardieu, the heroic tax exile
Jean-Marc Ayrault, the French prime minister, may come to regret insulting the actor who symbolises Gallic exuberance
By Anne-Elisabeth Moutet
8:31PM GMT 17 Dec 2012
Asterix and Obelix have deserted Gaul. Or at least the two actors who played them in three blockbuster movies have. With Gérard “Obelix” Depardieu’s much-trumpeted exile to Belgium last week, following Christian “Asterix” Clavier’s move to London in October, France has lost her best-known fictional heroes, undefeated by Julius Caesar’s legions, but vanquished by François Hollande’s punitive new 75 per cent top marginal income tax rate, recently hiked capital gains tax, and reinforced wealth tax.
The symbolism has not been lost on the French. When France’s richest man, Bernard Arnault, the CEO and main shareholder of the luxury behemoth LVMH, applied for Belgian citizenship last August, it was easy for Socialists to paint him as an unpatriotic, despicable fat cat. “Get lost, you rich b——” blasted a headline on the front page of Libération, the Left-wing daily, effectively capturing the national mood.

Fear of being committed may have caused Connecticut gunman to snap
By Jana Winter
Published December 18, 2012
FoxNews.com
NEWTOWN, Conn. – The gunman who slaughtered 20 children and six adults at a Connecticut elementary school may have snapped because his mother was planning to commit him to a psychiatric facility, according to a lifelong resident of the area who was familiar with the killer’s family and several of the victims’ families.
Adam Lanza, 20, targeted Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown after killing his mother early Friday because he believed she loved the school “more than she loved him,” said Joshua Flashman, 25, who grew up not far from where the shooting took place. Flashman, a U.S. Marine, is the son of a pastor at an area church where many of the victims’ families worship.
“From what I’ve been told, Adam was aware of her petitioning the court for conservatorship and (her) plans to have him committed,” Flashman told FoxNews.com. “Adam was apparently very upset about this. He thought she just wanted to send him away. From what I understand, he was really, really angry. I think this could have been it, what set him off.”

Texas school’s ‘Guardian Plan’ allows teachers to have guns
By Mike Krumboltz, Yahoo! News
In 2007, a school district in Harrold, Texas, made a controversial decision. It allowed teachers to carry concealed weapons on school grounds to protect students against potential shooters.
Now, in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary attack in Newtown, Conn., that left 28 dead including 20 children and the gunman, the school district’s methods are getting a closer look. In a report from CBS Dallas Fort Worth, superintendent David Thweatt says the district’s “Guardian Plan” is a way of taking charge in the chaos of a potential shooting. Teachers are the true first responders, Thweatt says. “We need to be here to protect our children. Not four, five minutes or six minutes from now.”
In an interview with Fox News, Thweatt said, “As educators, we don’t have to be police officers and learn about Miranda rights and related procedures. We just have to be accurate.”
Thweatt isn’t sure his plan would have stopped the Newtown massacre; however, he contends that “active shooters go where there is no one there to resist. The Guardian Plan addresses that fact.”

the staff of the Ridgewood blog
Ridgewod NJ, Gov. Chris Christie, along with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, announced today that PATH rail service at the Hoboken station will resume today December 19th with service to and from the 33rd Street station in Manhattan.
The announcement comes after weeks of extensive repairs following damage from Hurricane Sandy. The trains will initially run in both directions until 10 p.m. seven days a week. Sandy flooded PATH tunnels with as much as eight feet of salt water, destroying critical signals and switching systems ,with the Hoboken station particularly hard hit.
Christ Episcopal Church will host a Blue Christmas service on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m.
The music will be provided by Crosswinds Trio, a high brass trio (horn, trumpet and piano). This service can provide us with space to acknowledge our pain and loss while trusting in the hope and peace of Christ.
Please spread the word to any parishioners, friends, or family members who might appreciate this service.
In light of the tragedy in Newtown, CT, last Friday this service is all the more needed for many of us.
Garrett: AMT Set to Ensnare More of Middle Class
By Rep. Scott Garrett
Dec 17, 2012
Without a change to current law, millions of American families will begin the new year with a rather costly and unwelcome gift delivered courtesy of the IRS.
In the absence of an alternative minimum tax fix, roughly 28 million taxpayers — about a third of all those who pay income taxes — will see their bill skyrocket.
The AMT hike translates roughly to an average increase of more than $3,200. To put this number in perspective, President Barack Obama’s proposed tax increases on the highest earners are set to bring in about $80 billion in additional revenues next year. The AMT hike will amount to $92 billion.
Created in 1969, the AMT is a parallel tax system originally intended to ensure that a small number of high-income households paid income tax. To this end, AMT rules prevent taxpayers from taking a number of popular deductions, including itemized deductions for state and local taxes, personal exemptions and other miscellaneous itemized deductions. In doing so, the AMT guarantees that certain households cannot deduct their way out of income taxes altogether.
Unfortunately, when the AMT was created, the income thresholds were not adjusted for inflation. Because of this, the AMT’s original income thresholds now threaten to capture millions of middle-income Americans. Over the decades, there have been a number of AMT “fixes” enacted into law to address this issue. The last such fix expired at the end of 2011.
Furthermore, as the AMT does not allow for a deduction of state and local taxes, residents of certain areas of the country are disproportionately affected by the tax. My home state of New Jersey, along with California and New York, are the top three states affected by the AMT in terms of number of filers per state. According to the Congressional Research Service, in New Jersey alone, this year nearly 2.2 million tax returns could be subject to the AMT.
But the AMT is by no means a parochial issue. In the absence of a fix, taxpayers in every state will be affected, especially taxpayers in certain demographics, such as married couples and those with large families.
The coming AMTmageddon is shaping up to be a logistical nightmare for the IRS. To prepare for the influx of tax returns, the IRS must pre-program its computer systems to reflect current tax law. This is impossible to do if there is uncertainty regarding the law.
Let me be frank: I do not have any sympathy for the IRS. I do, however, have much empathy for the taxpayer. In a recent letter to the Senate Finance Committee, acting IRS Commissioner Steven T. Miller wrote that “there would be serious repercussions for taxpayers” if there is no AMT patch enacted by the end of the year. Because of other rules associated with the AMT, the IRS expects that without a fix, the returns of more than 60 million taxpayers could be affected by delayed filing, increased tax liabilities and slower refunds.
Given our nation’s economic health — and the millions of small businesses, individuals and families struggling to make ends meet — Congress must address the AMT extension to provide tax certainty and prevent a catastrophic tax hike.
At the very least, Congress and the president must avert the $92 billion AMT hike by extending the AMT patch for 2012. To this end, I recently led a bipartisan letter to Speaker John A. Boehner, R-Ohio, requesting that he make an AMT extension one of his top priorities in negotiations with the president and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., to address the fiscal cliff.
Ultimately, I believe we must take even more aggressive steps to protect taxpayers by abolishing the AMT for individuals. The very existence of the AMT proves that the federal tax code is broken. A fair, effective and efficient tax code does not require a parallel system that adds confusion, complexity and cost.
But, until we can undertake a broader tax overhaul, let’s stop the AMT hike and head off a nasty case of tax sticker shock on April 15, 2013.
Rep. Scott Garrett, R-N.J., serves on the Budget and Financial Services committees. He chairs the Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises.

Budget watchdogs have dubbed the 94-page emergency-spending bill “Sandy Scam.” Obama Sandy aid bill filled with holiday goodies unrelated to storm damage Vics suffer as $60B aid plan gets porked up

WASHINGTON — President Obama’s $60.4 billion request for Hurricane Sandy relief has morphed into a huge Christmas stocking of goodies for federal agencies and even the state of Alaska, The Post has learned.
The pork-barrel feast includes more than $8 million to buy cars and equipment for the Homeland Security and Justice departments. It also includes a whopping $150 million for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to dole out to fisheries in Alaska and $2 million for the Smithsonian Institution to repair museum roofs in DC.
An eye-popping $13 billion would go to “mitigation” projects to prepare for future storms.
Other big-ticket items in the bill include $207 million for the VA Manhattan Medical Center; $41 million to fix up eight military bases along the storm’s path, including Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; $4 million for repairs at Kennedy Space Center in Florida; $3.3 million for the Plum Island Animal Disease Center and $1.1 million to repair national cemeteries.
