The VC and BOE are unreal (except for a couple realists like Morgan).
Does anybody every want to cut their budget? No.
Do financial realities require this? Yes.
Everyday, private companies are making the hard choices. Restructuring jobs, departments, making due with less, etc. due to financial constraints.
What have we seen with the VC and BOE? Nibbling around the edges. Threatening wholesale reductions to sports. What about negotiating reasonable pay packages? Rationalizing school administration? Saying no to scope creep?
If the BOE says “No”, to financial oversight, we should say “NO!” to the budget.
IRS denies using emails to target taxpayers
Published April 12, 2013
FoxNews.com
With less than three days to go before federal taxes are due, the Internal Revenue Service is denying claims that it wants to snoop on taxpayers by reading their emails and monitoring other forms of electronic communication without a warrant.
“Respecting taxpayer rights and taxpayer privacy are cornerstone principles for the IRS,” the agency said in a statement. “Our job is to administer the nation’s tax laws, and we do so in a way that follows the law and treats taxpayers with respect.”
It continued: “Contrary to some suggestions, the IRS does not use emails to target taxpayers. Any suggestion to the contrary is wrong.”
The statement comes after the American Civil Liberties Union said this week that internal documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request revealed that agents were told they didn’t need a warrant to root through emails, texts or Facebook pages of people it is investigating. The ACLU and other privacy groups disagreed with that rationale and say by bypassing warrants, the Tax Man is violating the Fourth Amendment.

Restaurant Review: Lisa’s Mediterranean Kitchen in Ridgewood
Friday April 12, 2013, 9:11 AM
BY JULIA SEXTON
SPECIAL TO THE RECORD
The Record
There are good-looking restaurants. There are tony restaurants. And then are simply good restaurants. Lisa’s Mediterranean Kitchen in Ridgewood falls into the last — and most precious — category.
Let me be clear. Lisa’s is not unattractive. Down its Oak Street entry ramp, this restaurant is bright and cheery. Sure, there might be more metallic gold paint than necessary, but Lisa’s dining room offers a pleasant respite from Ridgewood’s main drag. Some of the good feeling in Lisa’s dining room comes from other diners. On each of my visits with friends, I saw large, multi-generational groups enjoying family dinners. While not noisy, Lisa’s dining room offers a comfortable hubbub. If the baby squeals or bangs a spoon, it’s OK; Lisa’s is a great choice for families.

The Ridgewood Fire Department will lend one of its pumper trucks to the Borough of River Edge, which has had an equipment shortage ever since one of its vehicles was put out of commission for several weeks.
Village Council members on Wednesday approved a shared services agreement that will send a municipal fire engine to the River Edge Fire Department for a maximum of six weeks. The governing body in River Edge moved its resolution formalizing the agreement April 1.
“[River Edge has] a pumper truck that is going under major repairs and will be out of service. They did a search of municipalities that had an extra vehicle, and our old pumper truck will be able to meet their needs,” Village Manager Ken Gabbert said.

The public hearing and subsequent vote on the ordinance will take place May 8.

The results of a classified Defense Intelligence Agency report indicate that “North Korea now has nuclear weapons capable of delivery by ballistic missiles.”
That was the bombshell out of a House Armed Services Committee hearing Thursday.
It came when Rep. Doug Lamborn (R) of Colorado began quoting from what he said was an unclassified version of the DIA report, which has not yet been made public.

Analysis: U.S. gun-control bill could weaken N.J.’s restrictions
Friday April 12, 2013, 12:11 AM
By HERB JACKSON
“NJ/DC” COLUMNIST
With a procedural vote out of the way, the U.S. Senate is getting ready for its first debate on significant gun-control legislation in decades, and a bipartisan plan requiring background checks at gun shows is first on the agenda.
National groups seeking stronger gun-control laws praised the compromise developed by Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Patrick Toomey, R-Pa., both gun owners who previously had gotten top ratings from the National Rifle Association.
But in New Jersey, which has some of the country’s toughest gun laws already, gun-control advocates are nervous. In particular, they worry that a provision Manchin and Toomey included to allow interstate handgun sales could open a loophole in the Garden State’s strict background check process.
