Reader says Valley Expansion staring to sound like a “reality” TV show

A project that any fool can see is off the chart, others being considered that are at best questionable, “experts” testifying who do not reside here and could care less about the town, a councilwoman who may get to vote on something she should be recusing herself from, her next door neighbor who writes a letter doing her more harm than good, and a parking garage that after thirty plus years still is not built ! Is this made for TV or what !?

Wake up Ridgewood before this little gem of a town turns into a lot more than anyone could have ever imagined.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Councilman Thomas Riche and Ridgewood Councilwoman Bernadette Walsh are briefed by Ridgewood Police Department Patrol Officer Rosario Vaccarella on the status of attempts to capture a black bear that was hiding up a tree in the Community Gardens near Maple Park on Sunday afternoon.  Standing with Mr. Riche and Ms. Walsh is Ms. Walsh’s young son Gavin .

The bear was later successfully tranquilized, captured unharmed, and taken to a remote area for release by representatives of the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife.

The bear capture was documented by several reporters and photographers, including at least one representing a NYC area television station.

A a precaution, all swimmers were ordered out of water in nearby Graydon Pool, Ridgewood’s municipal swimming complex, until the bear was safely contained within the Community Gardens.

Anger mounts after Facebook’s ‘shadow profiles’ leak in bug

Summary: Facebook said Friday it fixed a bug that exposed contact info for over six million accounts. The admission revealed its ‘shadow profile’ data collection activities, and users are furious.

Friday Facebook announced the fix of a bug it said inadvertently exposed the private information of over six million users when Facebook’s previously unknown shadow profiles accidentally merged with user accounts in data history record requests.

According to Reuters, the data leak spanned a year beginning in 2012.

The personal information leaked by the bug is information that had not been given to Facebook by the users – it is data Facebook has been compiling on its users behind closed doors, without their consent.

A growing number of Facebook users are furious and demand to know who saw private information they had expressly not given to Facebook.

Files reveal Birdsall engineering firm’s illegal campaign donations

Files reveal Birdsall engineering firm’s illegal campaign donations
Sunday June 23, 2013, 3:19 PM
BY CHRISTOPHER BAXTER
AP /STAR LEDGER
Associated Press

From 2008 to early 2012, Birdsall made more than 1,000 secret contributions worth $1.05 million to candidates and political groups of all stripes and in all corners of the state, according to a Star-Ledger analysis of the records.

During the same period, business disclosure reports show, Birdsall cashed in on more than $84 million in public contracts.

“This is exactly how pay-to-play works,” said Craig Holman, who helped draft New Jersey’s pay-to-play law and who now lobbies in Washington for Public Citizen, an advocacy group. “The one side that isn’t so far being penalized are the public officials who received these contributions. If they knowingly and willfully accepted them, they must be prosecuted.”

But Holman and other experts said criminal cases will be difficult to prove without hard evidence of a quid pro quo. No politician who received Birdsall’s secret money has been accused of any crime related to the donations. More than a dozen recipients interviewed by The Star-Ledger said they followed the law, gave Birdsall no special treatment in awarding contracts and knew nothing about the firm’s reimbursements to its employees.

“Do I know Birdsall donated money to our campaign? Yeah, they were the engineer in town,” said Brick Mayor Stephen Acropolis, a Republican, who records show received $6,000 in secret contributions. “But how do we, at the local level, know employees were told to give those checks, or were told they were going to get that money back and be reimbursed?”

Other recipients of the secret contributions listed in the records included Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, a Democratic boss in northern New Jersey, groups tied to South Jersey Democratic power broker George Norcross and Ocean County GOP Chairman George Gilmore, Senate President Stephen Sweeney, Newark Mayor Cory Booker, and all of the current Ocean and Monmouth county freeholders.

Records show $900 in personal-check contributions went to the inaugural committee for Republican Gov. Chris Christie and $1,500 to the campaign of his Democratic predecessor, former Gov. Jon Corzine, but both governors publicly disclosed them to the state Election Law Enforcement Commission.

Most “super” supermoon of 2013 on June 22-23

Most “super” supermoon of 2013 on June 22-23

Full moon falls on June 23, 2013 at 11:32 UTC (6:32 a.m. CDT in the U.S.). Thus, for many, the moon appears about as full in the June 22 evening sky as it does on the evening of June 23. This full moon is not only the closest and largest full moon of the year. It also presents the moon’s closest encounter with Earth for all of 2013. The moon will not be so close again until August, 2014. In other words, it’s not just a supermoon. It’s the closest supermoon of 2013.

At United States’ time zones, the moon will turn full on June 23 at 7:32 a.m. EDT, 6:32 a.m. CDT, 5:32 a.m. MDT and 4:32 a.m. PDT.

June 23 supermoon helps you imagine spacecraft en route to Pluto

We astronomers call this sort of close full moon a perigee full moon. The word perigee describes the moon’s closest point to Earth for a given month. Two years ago, when the closest and largest full moon fell on March 19, 2011, many used the term supermoon, which we’d never heard before. Last year, we heard this term again to describe the year’s closest full moon on May 6, 2012. Now the term supermoon is being used a lot. Last month’s full moon – May 24-25, 2013 – was also a supermoon. But the June full moon is even more super! In other words, the time of full moon falls even closer to the time of perigee, the moon’s closest point to Earth. The crest of the moon’s full phase in June 2013, and perigee, fall within an hour of each other.

What does supermoon mean exactly? And how special is the June 23, 2013 supermoon? Follow the links below to find out.

Asian Tiger mosquitoes arrive in N.J.

The Record

The dire warnings of swarms of cicadas are beginning to fade from memory, and most people in North Jersey are starting to get over what might be called insect fatigue.

But just when you thought it was safe to attend your next summer barbecue, know this: There is a new scourge in town. It’s the Asian tiger mosquito, an elegant little bug that looks like it’s dressed for an evening out, but will eat you alive, figuratively speaking, even at midday.

Before this new gang showed up, New Jerseyans had learned to live with, if not exactly love, several species of drably-clad plain brown mosquitoes that had collectively earned the title of New Jersey State Bird in late-night talk-show monologues.

Those other mosquitoes, like the ubiquitous Vexan mosquito, were predictable. They came out at dusk, sucked your blood for a while, made it impossible to get to sleep with their infernal whine, and sometimes gave you a fleeting moment of intense, murderous pleasure when you squished one in mid-bite — and then generally left you alone until the next evening.

The Asian tiger mosquito, named for its distinctive black-and-white striped legs and body markings, has no compunction about attacking when you least expect it, zooming in for a meal as you get into the car for your morning commute, for example.

Sen. Robert Menendez wooed a married newspaper publisher, taking the attractive brunette on a romantic getaway to the Caribbean, a tipster alleges.

The New Jersey Dem and Cecilia Reynolds jetted to Puerto Rico, where they stayed at the isolated beach retreat of the island’s then-governor, Anibal Acevedo Vila.

In a photo provided by the anonymous informant, Reynolds is sitting naked on a beach and suggestively smiling at the camera. In another set of pictures, they take turns posing against the same sunset backdrop.

The happy couple, dressed in shorts, also appeared to tour a national park and pose for a photo at a waterfall, Menendez wrapping his arm around Reynolds’ waist

Obama Administration: An Uncontrollable Ego

Obama Administration: An Uncontrollable Ego
June 22, 2013
By James Lewis

IRS. FBI. NSA… Under Obama they consistently exceed their previously understood legal powers. Yes, there was technical consent by the secret FISA court for massive NSA spying. In times of national threat the FISA court is a pushover; just imagine if they said “No” and we had another 9/11/01. So they drove a dagger into the U.S. Constitution rather than stand for principle, the way Chief Justice John Roberts helped damage the Constitution by voting for ObamaCare, and the Burger Court shafted the Constitution and ruined millions of young lives with unrestricted abortion.

Perhaps the most damaging Leftist assault ever was reverse discrimination to make up for white racial sins going back to the slave trade that ended in 1865; that racialist revenge narrative still drives reverse discrimination, forty years after the start of “affirmative” action. It will never end, as long as there is a penny to be made on racial blackmail.

The equal protection clause is gone. Every time the left imagines another victim group, that gaping wound in constitutional protections grows larger and larger — first on behalf of American blacks, then for all “people of color,” then women and gays, and now, illegal immigrants. Reverse racial discrimination has empowered an unelected political class growing fat and thuggish on a new spoils system. With ObamaCare, racial spoils may capsize our elected ship of state, leaving only an EU-type corruptocracy.

The Left has pushed against the Constitution beginning with the Wilson administration and World War I. What’s different about Obama is his Leninist grandiosity, combined with amazing oppositional-defiant disorder. In street language that means his f-u attitude. Obama takes pleasure in waving his finger in the air while violating our most precious values. Obama’s narcissism and oppositional-defiance therefore control his official actions.

Readers claim Valley “experts ” offer nothing more than job interviews

In the end, it doesn’t matter what kind of precautions are taken by Valley hospital or to what degree Valley’s hired experts sugar-coat their presentations (re: job interviews). Our neighborhoods, and lives, will be wrecked if this expansion happens. How do we know this? We live here, day in, day out.

We see what happens to the neighborhood when there is minor street or utility work being done (it is paralyzed). We see what happens when it rains (the streets are choked with traffic). Experts talk the big talk about following safety regulations and deferring to state guidelines, but we see the plumes of diesel exhaust, daily, coming from the trucks that currently make deliveries to Valley

How can anyone who lives here believe that this expansion won’t have a disastrous affect on our village?
