On Friday, May 19, 2023, the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCPP) contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged overdose of a 6-month-old child. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the North Arlington Police Department revealed that ALIA ELSAFY endangered the welfare of the child by failing to supervise and allowing the child access to a suspected opioid that resulted in the child ingesting it.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, on Thursday, May 25, 2023, ALIA ELSAFY was arrested in Paramus, NJ and charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(2). ELSAFY was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending her first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the North Arlington Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
