Ridgewood NJ, do the math folks; what percentage of a $138.5 million budget would a $60k expenditure equate to? That’s right, MINISCULE; almost not even worth mentioning.
Yet, the Ridgewood Board of Education could not find $60k to fund an additional school-based police officer in their recently approved $138.5 million operating budget for the 2024-2025 school year.
The real kick in the ass is that the Village of Ridgewood agreed to pay training, uniform, and ancillary equipment related expenses for three school-based officers. However, Board of Education members have chosen to hire only two. It was said that their budget just could not support another $60k for a third police officer’s salary.
It’s an absolute crying shame folks; a real crying shame.

60k here, 60k there. Sooner or later its real money.
They don’t need any police in the schools.
They need that money for Pronoun Training.

Possibly saving a student’s life is not worth 60 grand? Not the first time the BOE wanted to do this. At one point in time they wanted to cut drivers ed from the budget. Cheaper to educate one less student…
Save them from what? If someone was determined enough to bring a gun to school and shoot up a bunch of people, the retired old lump in the uniform would probably be the first unsuspecting target.

What % of the BOE members still have kids in Ridgewood School system?
Should be 100% ha! Then we can get clean look at $$ instead of people just approving their kids teachers/kids stuff
What % of the school budget is supported by people without children in RPS? If you only want parents on the school board, let them pay for their own damn schools. Otherwise, the school board is open to every resident of ridgewood. We are taxpayers too. We leave, RPS is screwed

Stop pimping the police union.
This has nothing to do with the police union. These are retired police officers who accept these jobs.
Don’t need a cop. Just give all the teachers AR-15s.

Since when do we need so many armed cops/ex-cops? look at Uvalde. What next, metal detectors in buildings? Why not $60k for gifted and talented, or better auditoriums or fields?
I’m all for training teachers, how to use firearms. I have my concealed carry permit from the state of New Jersey, I passed all tests from the FBI. I am not a cop. And I go shooting at least 2to 3 times a week. That’s my hobby. I actually use my handgun more than cops. How many friends of mine are police officers and they told me in 25 years may I pull my gun a handful of times. But the last few years everything is going crazy.

The board members do not create/do the school budget
They may not create the budget, but they approve it. The bucks stops at their desks.
And how much researching of the budget do they REALLY do? It’s a shame and next year it will be even higher
