Not to mention the impact this thoughtless regulation has had on area businesses and employment. I heard Rohslers and others have complained to Ridgewood that the restrictions are impacting their business because people don’t want to invest in plants, etc. I’m considering cutting back my weekly landscaping service to twice a month. There is an economic ripple effect to this decision which I don’t think this council considered. If it was in response to an emergency I could understand it, but considering the amount of rain this season it seems nothing short of ridiculous. We should be able to water more than twice a week for 2 or 3 months of the year and maintain our properties that we all invest in dearly. Every other day watering seems reasonable unless of emergency drought conditions, and I want to see the rest of our service area comply with this rule otherwise it’s discriminating against Ridgewood
Businesses and business types come and go…..but water must remain forever.
This is a drought-prone region… We can’t deplete our water resources just to prop up a couple businesses. Maybe people will buy more drought resistant plants 🙂
now we are drought prone ???
Agree with every other day watering.
.
Face it – – Its an issue we need to deal with and not stick our heads in the sand over – – we don’t have enough water to sustain what we are doing. It was a key issue brought to the attention of Mayor Airbag when he forced through the tenement buildings in downtown Ridgewood and now we will have to pay the price of providing water to over 500 new families when they move to town.
You can plant drought resistant shrubs, bushes grass etc.. We are in a new era. We simply must conserve our water.
People are still abusing the restriction My neighbor waters everyday. Rather pay fine, but they don’t come around anyway.
There’s a lack of understanding here. It has nothing to do with droughts or lack of water. It is about the need for bigger tank capacities so that year-round pressure can be maintained. We need bigger tanks but the problem is, our highest point where they are happens to be in the most expensive real estate zone.
You’ve all fallen for the spin put out by Ridgewood Water!
We are not in a drought!
Ridgewood Water can’t pump the water fast enough, this has nothing to do with supply but with transmission!
And, please don’t tell me that I need to replant a tree for every dead tree I take down on my property.
I’m not investing my money in a tree that I may or may not be “allowed” to water.
Why should village residents be limited in water use when the other towns served by Ridgewood water are not.
I am not going to make my yard to look like California just because the utility is too incompetent to maintain their infrastructure. How many wells are shut down?
Snowflakes seem to think our area is water depleted, water needs to be preserved, global warming is rampant, sky is falling etc. Anything to just be in compliance with liberal agenda. They don’t even care about their living standards, their property or their money. They are so dead set on their agenda that they don’t give a shit about facts. If you want to save your water you can go ahead stop drinking from a faucet, maybe drink straight from the brook. But don’t try to force it to everyone like you do with everything else.
VC screwed up on this, it was a rushed decision. More minus points in my book for Susan. Making life harder and taking away one of the pleasures of everyday life in a suburb is stupid. They look at the quickest and shortest way to dealing with problems without even thinking hard about solutions. Shame on VC.

Maybe if we build a big garage and add lots of low income housing the water problem will be solved.
It’s exactly the same reason why our local cell phone coverage isn’t good. The wealthy elites don’t want bigger water tanks in their backyard just like they don’t want a new cell tower. Both will spoil the view and make their cocktail party not so great.
Facts are important. This problem is wholly and entirely a mismanagement issue by the village and RW Water. Rainfall and water supplies are not impacting this issue. This is a poor infrastructure, lack of planning, and foolish government decisions. Real leaders would solve the issues. From the US site
Heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding: Record precipitation was observed in parts of the Northwest, Northeast, Southern Plains and Mid-Atlantic. North Carolina had its wettest April on record. Rains caused widespread flooding in the Mid-Mississippi River Valley and contributed to numerous landslides in the West.
Drought shrunk to lowest extent since 2000: On May 2, 5 percent of the contiguous U.S. was in drought. This was the smallest drought footprint since the Drought Monitor began in 2000. Despite improvement in many areas, drought worsened in the Southwest and across parts of the Southeast where several large wildfires burned in Florida and southern Georgia.
523 is right. We are running a surplus of precipitation this year to boot. It would be helpful to get an explanation on why other towns served by this utility don’t get the same restrictions year after year. The explanations should not be rocket science.
Build a huge water tower next to Valley or on the Schedler property with ” Village of Ridgewood” painted on the side
Residents of 07450 are subject to restriction.
Wyckoff and midland p ark can water all they want
Ti me for heads to roll fire t hem all
6:33 the other towns are not subject to these restrictions because the ordinance was imposed by Ridgewood’s Village Council which has no jurisdiction over them.
10:47 That actually could be a good idea except for the fact that there is a large tank on East Saddle River Road. The new tank would be supplying the same area.
