  1. Really dumb idea to plant trees in wells in central business district. They do not belong there. Read , The Hidden Life of Trees by Wollenben. Must reading for anyone who cares about trees. Book on NYT best seller list last year and more.

Anywho, if you want to be kind to trees plant them where they belong. Putting trees in tree wells in concrete surroundings insures they will not grow optimally and will be left struggling to live, struggling for life and die. It is not too much to say that it is cruel to treat a tree that way. (Treat a tree” pretty cute right.)

“A paradigm-smashing chronicle of joyous entanglement that will make you acknowledge your own entanglement in the ancient and ever-new web of being.”—Charles Foster, author of Being a Beast Are trees social beings? In this international bestseller, forester and author Peter Wohlleben convincingly makes the case that, yes, the forest is a social network. He draws on groundbreaking scientific discoveries to describe how trees are like human families: tree parents live together with their children, communicate with them, support them as they grow, share nutrients with those who are sick or struggling, and even warn each other of impending dangers. Wohlleben also shares his deep love of woods and forests, explaining the amazing processes of life, death, and regeneration he has observed in his woodland. After learning about the complex life of trees, a walk in the woods will never be the same again. Includes a Note From a Forest Scientist, by Dr.Suzanne Simard

But Hey, the council would never read a book that an ordinary citizen recommends and act accordingly, decide to change for the better, in this case keep trees out of wells. Book discusses that subject too, does not recommend.

  2. Why are we spending money and time I’m planting 250 trees , when we don’t have the personnel to meeting we have now, who comes up with this nonsense.
    Amazing

  3. Fantastic! I am so happy that finally the importance of trees to a community is coming into focus. People come to ridgewood for the bucolic feel, only to cut down trees in their yard.

    thank you ridgewood.

  5. Who’s paying for this. There must be a lot of money. When are they going to start doing this. What are they trying to do become tree city USA again. Do we really need this. Because who’s going to maintain All these new trees. That’s a lot of maintenance. Just a thought. Thanks tree man

  6. Will they be digging up more roads? Hope there are no storms on the horizon cause until they are firmly rooted good chance they won’t stay put…

  7. What is wrong with people? I can’t believe people are upset about planting trees. If you are that concerned about the money and the maintenance you are in the wrong town. The shade trees in our neighborhoods are one of the reason why people love this area.

Great job Ridgewood. Please plant more and I would be happy to donate money / time to keep this moving forward in the years to come.

  8. Great job…
