Ridgewood NJ, this winter the Village of Ridgewood will replace its traditional meters with eighty-five new smart parking kiosks and parkers will bear the burden as the village evaluates different ways to fund the kiosks and the Hudson Street parking garage currently under construction.
All parking meters, with the exception of a few 15-minute meters that is, are scheduled to be removed.
On and off-street parking fees at the kiosks are likely to increase to $1.25 from $0.75 at the beginning of the year. The Village Council debated the increase at Wednesday nights council meet and in the end, the consensus was to raise the rate to $1.25, and the council will vote on the increase an upcoming meeting.
The new kiosks will cost Ridgewood taxpayers $745,000 over three year period but can last up to a decade after purchase. The implementation comes after the village tested the meters in central business district parking lots. The kiosks are expected to arrive in November or December and installation should be completed sometime in January.
The four-level, 240-space garage at Hudson and South Broad streets is expected to open on June 2020. The village last year approved a $12 million bond to fund the long-debated construction.
Meanwhile, parking permit costs continue to skyrocket with premium annual resident parking permits, which included parking spots at the now-closed Hudson Street lot, costinga whopping $1,325.
Annual regular resident and non-resident permits will increase to $1,000. The resident permit allows parking in the Chestnut Street, North Walnut Street, Cottage Place and Route 17 Park and Ride lots; the non-resident permit is for the Route 17 Park and Ride lot only. Non-resident parking permits for the Cottage Place lot will be $1,975.
Parking for central business district employees will increase by $5. Employee parking permits for the district, which don’t include the daily parking rate, will cost $30, and monthly parking hangtags, for parking lots at Walnut and Cottage streets, will cost $105.
Just bend over and take it all in.
This won’t hurt one bit. Now, just say ahh.
Oh baby! I love it when you do me like that! Harder, harder!
I paid a dime for 10 minutes of parking the other day. Jut enough time to run to the post office and UPS store. Does this mean that rate will no longer be available and the minimum rate is $1.25?
Local business is losing to online and malls … seems the perfect time to make it more painful for shoppers to go downtown. People and businesses dont have to bend over… they can choose to move. Just look at all the self service kiosks at McDonalds in response to employees wanting minimum wage raised. There are always choices.
It’s already hard enough to park in this town now with the pride hike you’re only hurting your businesses.. less and less reasons for me to go there ..
raise it to 10 dollars an hour- they will figure out a way to ghost town the commercial Zone
Parking problem solved- no demand
glen rock is Consumer friendly and free parking while shopping- many of the Ridgewood men get Haircuts Drycleaning general services- Ridgewood is a hassle
Spread your cheeks and enjoy it. It’s the best shagging you’ve had since Aronsohn and his gang left office.
Uh oh; I betcha Union Street will be jammed when the rates go up. I rarely go to CBD and always park on Union. I better renew my passport now while I can still park on Union St. while in the post office.
The King has no Robes on..
no one shall speak those truthful words..
Ridgewood is not so Special- Ridgewood has now taken the final hemlock.
The parking issue is just the Flying carpet to hell for the Towns Grifters.
Look at the second Floor Wood framing over the street at the former Ken Burns ford lot.
you could reach up and deliver a take out pizza from the road into the Apartment curtain Wall of windows –
it is that Close- this isn’t progress folks- clearly the Lot is maximized down to the Inch.
Looks like Crap..Train tracks are 40 feet away- let the Fog horns blast them out of their beds each nite…towns getting picked off like sitting Ducks – the Builders will leave with the cash- we will have the resulting problems and costs from the Builders for decades
Union street 7 spots was the last anti- meter oasis- who’s cover was consistently blown wide open by some Ass-wipe Parking Violation.
I’m done with shopping and banking and eating in Ridgewood unless the establishment has its own free parking.

Not good It will hurt the shoppers , in the end it will hurt the c b d,
It is in realtors interest to have as much property turnover as possible. And with a realtor for mayor you can be sure there won’t be any slow down in RW. In the meantime please don’t forget to keep blaming Aronson for this disaster. It may make you feel better.
And by the way, yes I will roll over. Nobody in this town gives a damn about my opinion or yours for that matter. You just keep yelling and complaining on this blog or FB but you won’t get far. Mayor or vice mayor will promise you that they will look into this, you will thank them for the leadership and feel good. The end result will be the same.
