Ramsey NJ , according to the Ramsey Police Department ,on November 11, 2019, at 12:43AM, Police Officer Bryan Arsi was on patrol when he observed two suspicious males near the United States Postal Service mailboxes, in front of the Ramsey Post Office at 175 E. Main Street. The two parties fled around the Post Office building and entered a car that was parked on North Island Avenue, in close proximity of the Post Office. Detective Adam Macaluso, Det. Jaclyn Sabatelli, Lieutenant Brian Lyman, Sergeant Casey Hines, Police Officer Robert McMackin, converged and detained two individuals inside the vehicle.

During the course of the investigation, officers were able to recover mouse glue traps, shoelaces, and plastic water bottles. All of these seized items, it is suspected, were used in previous “fishing” thefts of mail. Officers also believe that they interrupted a crime in progress.

Based on the previous mail thefts, the Ramsey Police Department is conducting many investigations in mail theft and check fraud. The Ramsey Police Department is working with the United States Postal Service to secure US Postal Service mailboxes located throughout the Borough.
The Ramsey Police Department urges our residents not to use the United States Postal Service mailboxes until they have been updated. And due to the number of mail theft crimes throughout New Jersey, the Ramsey Police Department is certain that the two individuals arrested early Monday Morning, are not the only ones that are committing these types of crimes.
If you have recently mailed out checks through the United Postal Service, particularly if you used the United States Postal mailboxes in Ramsey, please keep an eye on your accounts. It is also suggested that you notify your bank.

If you need additional information, or you have been a victim of this type of crime, please report it to the Ramsey Police Department. Any additional information regarding this matter, please forward an email to Detective Adam Macaluso at amacaluso@ramseypd.com
