Ridgewood NJ, A quiet Saturday evening in downtown Ridgewood took a dramatic turn after a multi-vehicle collision left several cars heavily damaged and one driver in police custody.
According to initial reports from the Ridgewood Police Department, the incident occurred late Saturday night, July 18, 2026, in the busy 100 block of East Ridgewood Avenue.
Overturned Routine: The Mechanics of the Crash
The incident unfolded when a black Jeep Compass traveling eastbound drifted off course. The SUV struck two parked vehicles with enough force to cause severe, heavy structural damage to both cars.
Ridgewood Police Patrol Division officers responded swiftly to the scene to secure the area and evaluate the driver.
Field Sobriety Test Administered at the Scene
Upon investigating the crash, officers administered a standard roadside field sobriety test to the operator of the Jeep Compass. Immediately following the completion of the evaluation, the driver was taken into custody by patrol officers and transported directly to the Ridgewood Police Department headquarters for further processing.
Clean-Up and Road Clearance
The impact of the collision left at least two of the three involved vehicles completely inoperable. Tow trucks arrived shortly after the police to remove the heavily damaged vehicles from East Ridgewood Avenue, clearing the roadway for traffic.
Miraculously, despite the extensive property and vehicle damage, authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported in connection with the wreck.
As of Sunday morning, local police have not released the identity of the driver or specified the exact charges the individual will face.
