Congress shouldn’t have made all the minor holidays Mondays so they could go to their second or third homes for a three-day weekend. Some things are still celebrated on their actual day and it makes it more interesting and significant. People don’t even remember which presidents are being celebrated on the sham holiday that combines Lincoln’s and Washington’s birthdays. We always knew that Lincoln’s was Feb. 12 and Washington’s was Feb. 22 and we looked forward to them.
