Trenton NJ, Governor Phil Murphy signed an executive order on Wednesday reversing his previous orders that closed state and county parks and golf courses, which can reopen at sunrise on Saturday. But the governor said that social distancing requirements would continue to be in effect.

EXECUTIVE ORDER REOPENING STATE PARKS AND GOLF COURSES
Executive Order No. 133: reopening state parks and golf courses, and restoring the authority of county governments to determine whether county parks will be open or closed. To limit physical interaction, the State Parks and forests must implement reasonable restrictions that include:
-Limiting parking to 50% maximum capacity;
-Prohibiting picnics;
-Requiring social distancing to be practiced except with immediate family members, caretakers, household members or romantic partners; and
-Banning organized or contact activities or sports and gatherings of any kind.
Bergen County and the Village of Ridgewood are currently working on reopening facilities as early as this weekend. Some of the County golf courses could reopen on Saturday.
While the long-awaited reopening of parks provide us the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors again, please act responsibly and remember to continue to take proper precautions. Wear protective masks and practice proper distancing.

Assemblyman Erik Peterson (R-23rd) plans to introduce legislation next month that would allow non-essential businesses shuttered by Gov. Phil Murphy’s executive order to reopen providing they comply with safety protocols.

Peterson’s proposal comes as a national debate has started about when is the right time to relax the restrictions imposed by governors to contain the spread of the coronavirus. The debate focuses on the priority between the economy and public health.

“We need to make decisions based on science and common sense and not fearmongering,” said Peterson, whose district stretches from South Bound Brook to the Delaware River. “If we do not immediately begin to re-start our economy, the economic toll of Gov. Murphy’s never-ending no-risk approach will be more devastating on the health and welfare of New Jersey residents than the coronavirus.”

Peterson is scheduled to introduce the “Healthy Citizens and Healthy Business Act” on May 4.
