Ridgewood NJ, Neither the Ridgewood Village Council nor the RIdgewood Board of Education have yet decided if all of their respective employees, including police officers, firefighters, and teachers, will be required to get a COVID-19 vaccination.
From news sources:
In a November interview published by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, public health expert Joanne Rosen said states could mandate vaccination of employees — they have a constitutional right to require vaccinations that stems from a 1905 challenge to a Massachusetts smallpox vaccine mandate, she said.
“The Supreme Court said that states have under their police powers, which is under the Constitution, the authority to enact reasonable regulations as necessary to protect public health, public safety, and the common good,” Rosen said. “Vaccination mandates constitute exactly that kind of permissible state action to protect the public’s health.”
And last month, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said employers can legally mandate that employees get the vaccine unless they have a disability or a sincerely held religious belief that prevents them.
Should all public employees in Ridgewood be vaccinated?
No
I think definitely Employees at the water pollution plant, sanitation, recycling, look what they’re handling each and every day. Talk about hazard duty pay definitely. They deserve it. I would argue that no one.
They deserve hazard pay. Why wouldn’t they. Who in their right mind would vote against that. Unless your management. Right
I’m surprise people are against this can anyone answer why. The scientist at the government association said that especially employees that work at Water Pollution Plant should be constantly tested and given the opportunity for the shots.
Very interesting, so it looks like most people are against the shot . Ok .
And yet the government scientist say that you can get Covid working at a Water Pollution Plant. it’s been tested over and over again. your percentages are higher than anyone else. Is that true or are they telling us a story. I don’t know where this is coming from Republicans, Democrats, or a dirty news Channels.
Teachers and edu admins need it, at a minimum. BOE’s only answer to “When can we safely get kids back into the schools M-F?” has been “Once there’s a vaccine.” They have no other plan, despite immediately surrounding districts (Wyckoff, Ramsey, Allendale, HoHoKus, Glen Rock, et al) having figured out ways to get their kids in classrooms M-F. Once doses are allotted by Murphy, we need teachers and admins to get shots in arms ASAP – start planning now, BOE and admins – get on whatever lists you need to now; don’t wait. Ridgewood parents deserve a plan!
