Hackensack NJ, Bergen County spent more than half a million dollars of taxpayer money on TV ads telling residents to mask up, get tested. The county ran even coronavirus-related television ads last year on about 20 channels urging viewers to wear masks, adhere to social distancing guidelines, apply for emergency loans, get tested and get vaccinated.

Critics have been quick to claim  the ads simply promoted democrats . County Executive Jim Tedesco was featured in all of them, and County Commissioner Mary Amoroso was in three.

Bergen County and County Executive Jim Tedesco have also faced heavy criticism for financial decisions made since the COVID-19 outbreak began. At the end of 2020, county commissioners approved a $28 million emergency borrowing plan when the county said it needed to make up for “unexpected revenue drops” ,but at the same time, the county was handing out $1.4 million in bonuses to about 500 employees.
