Hasbrouck Heights NJ, Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights claimed the life of one driver and left several others injured on Thursday evening, March 6, according to authorities.
The fatal accident occurred around 6:20 p.m. near Route 46 and Franklin Avenue, prompting road closures and detours that lasted for several hours.

One Dead, Several Injured in Hasbrouck Heights Crash
A serious multi-vehicle crash on Route 17 South near McDonald’s in Hasbrouck Heights required an extensive emergency response around 6:20 p.m. last evening. The Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department (HHFD), along with mutual aid from Wood-Ridge and Hackensack Fire Departments, worked to extricate three trapped occupants from vehicles spread across 500 feet of the highway. One victim, who was severely entrapped, tragically did not survive. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Hasbrouck Heights Police are investigating the incident. A heartfelt thank you to all emergency personnel and mutual aid teams who assisted. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased driver.
Investigation Underway by Bergen County Authorities
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Fatal Accident Task Force have launched an investigation in coordination with the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department.

- All southbound lanes of Route 17 were closed for hours
- Two northbound lanes were also shut down
Investigators remained at the crash site late into the night, working to determine the cause of the fatal collision.
