Former Ridgewood Fire Chief Robert Missel has Passed Away

Ridgewood NJ, on May 19th the Ridgewood Professional Firefighters FMBA Local 47  announced the passing of former Ridgewood Fire Chief Robert Missel. Chief Missel started as a probationary firefighter on November 16, 1964, was promoted to Lieutenant on August 1, 1978, and Captain on November 1, 1983. He was then promoted to Deputy Chief in 1986 and Chief in 1987.

He retired on October 31, 1997 as Chief of Department. Chief Missel oversaw many Ridgewood Fire Department projects including the 100th anniversary celebration and the move of fire headquarters on Hudson Street to our current location on East Glen Ave. Prior to his service in Ridgewood, Chief served in the United States Army during the Vietnam war.

Our condolences go out to Bob’s family and friends and we honor and thank him for his many years of service to our country and our community.
