Leonia NJ, after 14 years of bringing prehistoric wonder to New Jersey families, Field Station: Dinosaurs, the beloved outdoor dinosaur-themed park located in Overpeck County Park, has announced that its 2025 season will be its last.

A Legacy of Learning and Family Fun Comes to a Close

In a statement, Guy Gsell, executive producer of Field Station: Dinosaurs, expressed gratitude for the memories shared over the years:

“This final season is about celebrating the joy, curiosity, and memories we’ve created with generations of families. We’re proud of what Field Station has meant to the community, and we’re excited to share one last unforgettable season with our guests.”

While no official reason was given for the park’s closure, Gsell previously announced a transition to nonprofit status in December 2024, aiming to extend the park’s future.

Final Season Schedule & Special Events

Opening Day: May 24, 2025
Spring Schedule: Open weekends through June 22
Summer Hours (June 25–Aug. 31): Open Tuesday through Sunday
Fall Schedule (Sept. 6–Nov. 9): Open weekends, with special openings on Nov. 6 & 7

This final season will feature exciting special events for families and dino-fans of all ages:

  • Meet Dino Don – Friday, July 12

  • Meet Marc Rogoff – Friday, July 19

  • Experience Mad Science – Friday, August 2

    • Includes foggy dry ice storms, meteor drops, and a simulated volcanic eruption

Live Performances & Dinosaur Adventures

The park will also offer live dinosaur shows, games, and hands-on activities in a vibrant open-air environment. Featured performers like Chris Palmieri (head puppeteer), Joe Newman-Getzler, and Kira Redzinak, will bring the Mighty T-Rex and friends to life on the park’s new amphitheater stage.

From Secaucus to Leonia: A Park with Deep Roots

Originally located in Secaucus, Field Station: Dinosaurs moved to Leonia in 2016, where it became an official educational partner with Bergen County. In 2021, the attraction signed a five-year lease with the Bergen County Improvement Authority, securing its place in Overpeck County Park—until now.

Education & Community Impact

As a nonprofit, the park aimed to secure grants and donations to continue its mission. It also sought to raise $25,000 ahead of its 2025 season to fund the nonprofit transition.

“We want to make sure the park can continue its mission and serve the people of Bergen County and New Jersey for the next 15, 20, or 50 years,” said Gsell in a previous interview. “We want to be that kind of institution.”

The park’s programming serves students, schools, and camp groups, with group bookings reportedly outpacing previous years.

 Don’t Miss the Final Season

Field Station: Dinosaurs has captivated audiences with its life-sized animatronic dinosaurs, interactive science shows, and immersive learning experiences. As it prepares to close its gates for the last time, the 2025 season is expected to draw record crowds.

Plan your visit, make memories, and say goodbye to a New Jersey favorite.
