RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Restoration and bank stabilization efforts are now in full swing at Dunham Trail, a cherished 1.75-acre nature preserve along the Ho-Ho-Kus Brook, as Ridgewood Water works to protect critical infrastructure and enhance environmental safety.
The project specifically targets the stabilization of the brook’s bank near a 20-inch Ridgewood Water main, with work progressing on schedule and slated for completion by the end of July 2025.
🚧 Trail Closures & Safety Measures
To ensure public safety and allow uninterrupted construction activity, Dunham Trail will remain closed between Spring Avenue and Grove Street for the duration of the project. The closure affects the west side of Ho-Ho-Kus Brook, where the trail winds through a lush, wooded area frequented by walkers, runners, and nature lovers.
🌿 Environmental Efforts: Tree Preservation and Replanting
In response to community concerns, the contractor is taking care to minimize tree removals during the bank stabilization process. All disturbed areas will be fully restored with native plantings once the work is complete, preserving the trail’s natural beauty and ecological value.
“We’re committed to balancing infrastructure integrity with environmental stewardship,” a project spokesperson said. “Once completed, Dunham Trail will be safer, stronger, and more sustainable for years to come.”
💧 Infrastructure Meets Nature
This important infrastructure project safeguards both Ridgewood Water’s critical water main and the Ho-Ho-Kus Brook shoreline, which has experienced erosion in recent years. The stabilization work helps prevent future water main failures and protects the trail from flood-related damage.
