Ridgewood NJ, at the last two Village Council meetings, honors and accolades and proclamations have been read about High School coaches and High School athletes.  These are wonderful men and women who are doing great jobs.  But we, at THE BLOG, have a couple of questions~concerns:

1. Why are sports-related individuals the only ones being lauded?  Why not a student who won a Math Award or a teacher whose students took the debate club to Washington DC?  Why not a student who won a Latin Award or a teacher who works with students who are learning English as a second language?  We know why:  BECAUSE THE VILLAGE COUNCIL HAS TO KEEP THE SPORTS COMMUNITY HAPPY.  Let’s face it, folks, the major donors to the campaigns of the Council majority were from coaches and sports-community supporters.  Payback time, plain and simple.
This begs another question:
2. Why are these individuals, who are employees of the Board of Education and students at the High School. being honored at the Village Council? Why aren’t these proclamations being read at meetings of the BOE?  The coaches are not employees of the Village, they are employees of the school system.
This is transparency for sure – so transparent that we all see right through their shameless shenanigans.

  1. Are our tax dollars paying for proclamations? Who writes them? Seems like a waste of time. Not taking away from great s hievemrnts but we are not curing cancer here. Its a slow news day in the village or a way to deflect when more important things can be discussed. It is becoming photo op central.

  2. It is exactly what drives the continuing Shedler nonsense. Leave that neighborhood alone. They have put up with a decade of filth, unsightly piles of dirt and debris, and now poisoned soil. Enough is enough!! END THIS CHARADE.

  3. Agree, this village council is reaching beyond its area of responsibility…… textbook strategy. “what, us, oh we’re just so proud of you we had to recognize your accomplishments”. Really? I don’t think so!

    1. Everyone gets a Trophy, Its Ridgewood! the tradition of excellence.

  4. Why do you hate sports so much 🤡

    1. Because of the way YOU conduct yourselves.
Your so far gone and so incredibly self righteous its sickening.

    2. Hate sports so much? Why do you hate academic so much? Why isn’t the council recognizing Latin debate and every other possible academical award? All they do is recognize sports. It is so apparent why

    1. Thanks Evan

  6. Because both the village and BOE are working in unison to consolidate power by adopting the partisan full service community school model of education.

They cater to special interest groups, ignore individual needs, and manipulate the public in these ways so they can keep power.

Vision 2030 outlines the entire agenda.
Keep asking questions! They’ll reveal their true intentions with continued incompetence.

  7. And they are spending a ton of money to keep Healthbarn happy. That 1/2 million dollar pavilion. It’s awful and could have been half the size. What’s with them catering to this business?

  8. No kidding, dirty politics, if they didn’t donate big money, they wouldn’t get anything, it’s such bullshit

  9. Bribery: If the payment is made to influence someone in a position of power to grant an unfair advantage or benefit.
Corruption: Similar to bribery, but often refers to a broader system of dishonest or unethical practices, particularly within an organization or government.
Fraud: If the payment is made through deception or trickery to gain something unfairly.
Extortion: If the payment is demanded under threat or duress to avoid harm or negative consequences.

  10. I have nothing against sports but it seems to be a major obsession in this village. We boast a tradition of excellence, yet not one scholar has been recognized or anyone outside of sports. Why is this? Because a math s scholar isn’t considered a hometown hero. Sad that we place so much importance on something that only benefits some with the athletic prowess to excel.

  11. Very good point. Why aren’t they recognizing academic achievements and just sports achievements? And also, why the hell is the Village council so busy doing proclamations for board of employees?

    1. If you are too busy watching the Paul Vagianos Magical Mystery Tour, you won’t focus in on all of the misdeeds on things that they really should be spending their time on improving. If They are just handing out awards every week, then it fools residents into believing that everything is hunky dory.

Just wait until next year when the budget goes bust, residents may be coming up with a proclamation of their own.
