Village Manager Keith Kazmark announced that Ridgewood Water has temporarily closed an interconnection to the Hawthorne water system to send more water to Paterson, Prospect Park, Haledon, and North Haledon, which have been struggling without adequate supply since a 140-year-old, 30-inch water main ruptured near Hinchliffe Stadium last Friday.
Boil Water Advisory Still in Effect
Residents in Paterson, Prospect Park, Haledon, and North Haledon remain under a boil water advisory, with officials urging tap water to be boiled for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth. The advisory will stay in place until lab testing confirms the water is safe.
The Passaic County Health Department has ordered all food-service businesses in the affected areas to close until further notice.
Repairs and Relief Efforts Underway
PVWC says repairs to the ruptured main are expected to be completed within 24 hours. In the meantime, bottled water distribution sites have been set up across the impacted area, and police officers are delivering bottled water directly to seniors and homebound residents. Portable showers and restrooms have also been deployed.
Officials Warn Against Opening Fire Hydrants
Authorities are also warning residents not to open fire hydrants, which can cause dangerously low water pressure and hamper firefighting capabilities.
“This is a time for communities to come together,” Kazmark said. “By conserving water now, Ridgewood can help ensure our neighbors have what they need while avoiding Stage III Water Restrictions here at home.”

Can the PVWC help Ridgewood whenever our ‘Class A’, Best in Class community can’t even water lawns? Sell the water utility, bank the profit, and demand the right to water our lawns!
Bank the profit???? So you want to give the people who’ve notoriously mismanaged resources more money???
And no one is stopping you from watering your lawn. ‘But the Village said if I water I’m a naughty bad boy!” Just ignore them. They ignore you, don’t they? Ignore them. Live your life. Water your lawn.
Selfish, no shame, thousands without water for days, volunteers supplying bottled water, shower stalls, portable toilets, spas offering free hair washes,,, And you’re encouraging people to ignore water usage – just go ahead and water your lawns in a drought, trying to avoid Stage 111 – typical stuck up entitled Ridgewood area resident. Don’t bother to call if fire if needed. would need a tanker truck in emergency.
Sounds like one of my neighbors, was watering twice a day with auto underground water smart sprinkler system for months, programing it herself. Only got a “warning”. Should have been fined $2,000. when tanks system dropped dangerously levels, affecting everyone! – VOR should Fine them. its not rocket science.
Noticed there are many underground sprinkler systems going full blast in Glen Rock, afternoons and evenings.
Donated or sold?
ANOTHER water main break in Paterson happening now, Sunday 8/24.
Known as ageing infrastructure happening everywhere, whenever all around us.
Get used to more to come. You won’t need to worry about having the “perfect” lawn and wished everyone conserved their water usage.
Overuse of pesticides is poison to the environment.
Water is vital for life, don’t waste it.
