Hasbrouck Heights, NJ — On August 10th, emergency crews responded to a dramatic vehicle fire at the Shell gas station on Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights. Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department Chief 61, Chief 62, Engine 2, and Squad 2 quickly arrived on scene, stretching a hose line and extinguishing the flames before they could spread to the building. The Wood-Ridge Fire Department provided additional support at the scene.
Remarkably, this is the second major incident at the same Shell station within the past year. Back in December 2023, a car collided with the gas pumps at the same location around 4:30 p.m. Hasbrouck Heights Chief 62, Squad 1, Ladder 1, and the Fire Reserve Unit responded, with an engine from Wood-Ridge Fire Department also called to assist.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either incident. Authorities praised the quick response and teamwork between local fire departments, which prevented both situations from escalating into more serious emergencies.
Safety Reminder: Gas station incidents can escalate rapidly due to fuel sources. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution when pulling into or out of fuel stations.
