Trenton, NJ — New Jersey residents are facing steep electric rate hikes this summer, with many pointing fingers at Governor Phil Murphy’s controversial Energy Master Plan (EMP) including Gubnatorial Jack Ciattarelli — a green energy overhaul projected to cost $1.4 trillion by 2050. While Democrats in Trenton continue to blame climate change, data centers, and outside market factors, critics argue the real problem stems from Murphy’s own policies.
In 2022, Senators Steven Oroho (R-24) and Anthony Bucco (R-25) blasted the Murphy Administration for delaying a public cost study of the EMP by more than two years. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) was supposed to release the financial impact by the end of 2019 but didn’t hold its first hearing until March 25, 2022.
Oroho called the EMP “costly foolishness” and compared it to the national Green New Deal, warning that it would lead to “more burdensome costs than benefits” for working families.
This summer’s electric rate hikes — 6.9% for Rockland Electric customers, 4.8% for JCP&L, 4.1% for Atlantic City Electric, and 3.3% for PSE&G — have fueled renewed criticism. While natural gas rates have dropped 23% since February and are now 44% lower when adjusted for inflation compared to 2008, Murphy’s plan would phase out natural gas entirely, forcing residents to switch to electric stoves, furnaces, and hot water heaters.
Senator Bucco warned, “Under Governor Murphy’s plan to electrify everything, there would be no relief — people would be forced to pay more to turn on their lights, heat their homes, and charge their cars.”
The state’s energy grid, part of the PJM Interconnection, is already strained by warmer summers and the rise of AI data centers, and critics say the EMP would make the situation worse.
With 20% higher utility bills hitting residents earlier this summer, short-term relief may come — but the long-term costs and reliability concerns surrounding Murphy’s Energy Master Plan remain a heated political battle in New Jersey.

It is a result of the utter environmental nonsense of climate change (once global cooling, then global warming, then today’s climate change foolishness). It was a Democrat election funding mechanism, using tax dollars to fund climate programs, with the money finding its way back to their Democrat election pockets. People should be imprisoned.

When ever I think of progressive democrats I think of things just getting progressively worse especially here in NJ where many of the illegals have been bused and flown over here since Joe Bidens reversal of the remain in Mexico policy for asylum and for the halt of construction of our southern border wall day 1 with a swoop of his pen through executive order. This impacted the states dramatically and made scarce resources for the American people.
