Assemblyman McGuckin Demands Prosecution Over Alleged NJ Non-Citizen Voter Cover-Up

TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey Assemblyman Greg McGuckin (R-Ocean) is calling for criminal prosecutions and an immediate suspension of automatic voter registration at the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) following disclosures regarding non-citizen voter registrations in the state.
MVC Software Error Leads to 6,600 Illegal Registrations
The controversy follows a public revelation that a software error in the New Jersey MVC’s system—spanning from June 2023 to June 2024 under former Governor Phil Murphy’s administration—led to the automatic registration of approximately 6,600 individuals who indicated they were non-U.S. citizens.
State officials confirmed that 400 of those individuals subsequently cast ballots in elections.
McGuckin Alleges Intentional Cover-Up by State Officials
Assemblyman McGuckin claims state officials knew about the illegal voter registrations as early as 2024 but hid the information from the public until forced by federal oversight.
“According to Governor Sherrill, the Murphy administration knew about these illegally registered voters in 2024 and did nothing. New Jersey deserves to know which public officials conspired to hide this and why Sherrill isn’t naming names,” McGuckin said.
McGuckin highlighted that the timing of the state’s public disclosure coincided directly with a lawsuit and subpoena from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) against New Jersey Secretary of State Dale Caldwell over access to state voter rolls.
“Now we know why the administration was trying so hard to hide New Jersey’s voter rolls from the Department of Justice,” McGuckin added. “It is no coincidence that the Governor came clean only after the DOJ subpoenaed New Jersey voter records.”
Calls to Halt Automatic Voter Registration
In response to the scandal, McGuckin is demanding two immediate actions:

Immediate suspension of automatic voter registration programs at the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.

A formal investigation and prosecution of state officials involved in withholding information regarding the illegal registrations from the public.
“When you’re in a hole, the first thing you do is stop digging. Automatic voter registration must be suspended immediately,” McGuckin stated. “The fact is that state officials prevented the public from knowing about this. That was intentional, that was a cover-up, and that should be prosecuted.”

It is ILLEGAL for non-citizens to vote, and each of these 400 ‘voters’ needs to be prosecuted and removed – immediately.
The immigration consequences that flow from violating this statute fall under 8 U.S.C. §§ 1182(a)(10)(D)(i) and 1227(a)(6)(A). Both statutes state that an alien “who has voted in violation of any Federal, State, or local constitutional provision, statute, ordinance, or regulation” will be deemed either inadmissible or deportable and therefore barred from admission or subject to removal from the United States. Neither statute requires a criminal conviction to find the alien inadmissible or deportable.
