RIVER EDGE, NJ — A man was struck and killed by an NJ Transit train on Friday afternoon, August 15, prompting major service disruptions on the Pascack Valley Line, officials confirmed.
According to NJ Transit, Train 1621 departed Hoboken at 3:02 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Spring Valley, N.Y. at 4:10 p.m. The train fatally struck the man just west of the New Bridge Landing Station in River Edge at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Officials said around 110 passengers and crew were on board at the time, but no additional injuries were reported.
Following the incident, rail service on the Pascack Valley Line was suspended in both directions, causing delays and cancellations throughout the evening commute. Train #1621 was canceled, and riders were advised to check NJ Transit’s official site for alternate service options.
NJ Transit Police responded immediately and are leading the investigation. As of now, no further details about the victim have been released.
The fatality comes as NJ Transit continues to face ongoing safety, service, and staffing concerns, raising questions about passenger rail reliability across New Jersey.
