NORTH ARLINGTON, NJ — A frightening crash outside Casa D’Amici Pizzeria on August 16 left the family-owned restaurant with a damaged storefront and a temporarily closed dining room — but also brought an outpouring of love and support from neighbors, local businesses, and loyal customers.

Around 7:30 p.m., a driver lost control of their vehicle at a busy intersection, jumped the sidewalk, and slammed into the front of the popular pizzeria. Police later arrested the driver on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to Mayor Daniel Pronti.

A “Miracle” That No One Was Hurt

“It was a miracle,” said Nancy Kajo, the owner’s daughter. “People are usually waiting at the bus stop and walking around, but in that moment, no one was there.”

Both the driver and passenger escaped with only minor scratches. A glass partition at the entrance prevented anyone inside from being injured.

Dining Room Closed, Takeout Still Open

For safety reasons, officials have temporarily closed Casa D’Amici’s dining room, but the restaurant remains open for takeout and delivery.

“We’re truly grateful for the overwhelming support we’ve received,” the owners shared in a Facebook statement. “To our loyal customers who continue to stop by for takeout and delivery — your encouragement has meant the world to our family.”

The restaurant hopes to reopen the dining room within a few weeks once repairs are complete.

Community Support Pours In

Within minutes of the crash, North Arlington Police, Fire Department, and Mayor Pronti were on scene. The mayor later urged residents to rally behind the local business:

“Let’s all stop in and order food ‘to go’ or have it delivered today and tomorrow,” Pronti wrote.

Nearby businesses and neighbors also showed up to help. “The barbershop, other shops — everyone was asking if we were OK and if we needed anything,” Kajo said. “The support has been overwhelmingly amazing.”

Looking Ahead

Though shaken by the accident, Casa D’Amici says its commitment to the community remains strong. “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your patience, your understanding, and your tremendous support,” the owners said.

Until the dining room reopens, fans of the North Arlington eatery can still enjoy their favorite meals through pickup and delivery.
