HAWTHORNE, NJ — A serious multi-vehicle crash on Route 208 southbound near Utter Avenue in Hawthorne on Wednesday afternoon, August 20, left one driver trapped inside a rolled-over sedan and sent at least two people to local hospitals.
According to officials, the crash involved multiple vehicles, with two passenger cars sustaining heavy damage. Firefighters from the Hawthorne Fire Department worked quickly to extricate a trapped occupant from the overturned sedan.
Emergency Response

Hawthorne EMS and Glen Rock EMS transported at least two victims to nearby hospitals.

A paramedic team from The Valley Hospital provided advanced care inside the Glen Rock EMS ambulance.

Police and firefighters from Glen Rock assisted Hawthorne crews at the scene.
Traffic Impact
The crash caused major delays on Route 208:

Southbound lanes were completely shut down at Goffle Road while crews cleared debris and wreckage.

Northbound traffic was reduced to a single lane until victims were removed and the scene was secured.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities have not released details about the cause of the crash or the conditions of those injured. Both heavily damaged vehicles were towed from the scene.
The Hawthorne Police Department is continuing its investigation.
