Hasbrouck Heights Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Role in Paterson Double Homicide

Hasbrouck Heights , NJ – A Hasbrouck Heights man has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison for his role in a 2021 Paterson double homicide, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Guilty Plea to Aggravated Manslaughter

Francisco Martinez, 33, pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter for the fatal stabbing of Johnny Jimenez outside a Totowa Avenue home in Paterson on July 5, 2021.

Martinez accepted a plea deal on May 25, 2025, and was formally sentenced on August 27, 2025, by State Superior Court Judge Sohail Mohammed. Officials confirmed that he must serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

Co-Defendant Sentenced to 30 Years

His brother and co-defendant, Jose Martinez, 36, of Paterson, was convicted of fatally stabbing both Jimenez and Jamie Hernandez during the same incident. He was found guilty of double murder in April 2025 and sentenced to 30 years in prison on August 7, 2025.

Crime and Aftermath

The deadly confrontation began as an argument at a three-story home on Totowa Avenue in the early morning hours of July 4, 2021, before escalating into a violent stabbing that claimed two lives.

Following the killings, the Martinez brothers fled New Jersey and were later captured in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, by U.S. Marshals.
