Glen Rock NJ, Close Call at Glen Rock Main Line Station. A tense scene unfolded near the Glen Rock Main Line Station on Thursday night after a woman fell onto the NJ Transit tracks, prompting a rapid emergency response and a temporary halt to train service.
Just before 6 p.m. Thursday, Glen Rock Police officers were dispatched to the tracks and discovered a woman in the “gauge of the tracks”—the space between two rails—suffering from a head injury.
Officers Tarantino and Graziani Execute Swift Rescue
The danger of the location required immediate action. Officers John Tarantino and T.J. Graziani successfully pulled the 76-year-old Waldwick woman to safety and began administering first aid until emergency medical technicians arrived.
The woman was later transported to Hackensack University Medical Center by the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps. No further information regarding her current condition has been released.
Investigation Underway: Cause of the Fall
NJ Transit Police, working with Glen Rock Police, determined the circumstances leading up to the fall:
-
The woman, a resident of Waldwick, was walking with a cane in the narrow space between the rail line and a fence.
-
As a train passed, she reportedly lost her balance and fell onto the tracks.
Authorities are still investigating to determine if the woman was struck by the train during the incident. Train traffic was temporarily stopped in the area to allow for the rescue and investigation.
This incident serves as a serious reminder of the dangers inherent in walking close to or on railway rights-of-way.
