RIDGEWOOD, NJ — The National Weather Service has upgraded the weather alert for Ridgewood and surrounding areas to a Blizzard Warning. Effective from Sunday afternoon (02/22) through Monday afternoon (02/23), the Village is bracing for a significant winter event that could drop up to 16 inches of snow.

With wind gusts projected to hit 50 MPH, officials are warning of “treacherous and life-threatening” travel conditions due to total whiteouts.

The Forecast: What to Expect

  • Total Accumulation: Current models predict between 12 and 16 inches of heavy snowfall.

  • Wind Hazards: Sustained winds and gusts up to 50 MPH will likely cause blowing snow and severely reduced visibility.

  • Travel Status: Travel is strongly discouraged. If you must be on the roads, expect near-zero visibility.

Emergency Parking & Snow Removal Rules

To allow Village crews to clear the 100+ miles of roadway in Ridgewood, the following rules are strictly in effect:

  1. Parking Suspension: Overnight on-street parking is suspended on Sunday, Feb 22, and Monday, Feb 23.

  2. Towing Alert: Per Village code, any vehicles left on public roadways will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense to facilitate snow removal.

  3. Do Not Push Snow: It is illegal to throw or plow snow back into the public roadways. Please clear your sidewalks and driveways toward your own property.

Critical Safety Checklist for Residents

Village officials and the Ridgewood Police Department urge residents to follow these life-safety guidelines:

  • Clear the Hydrants: If you have a fire hydrant near your home, please shovel a path to it. In the event of a fire, every second counts.

  • Respect Barricades: Do not move or drive around police tape, cones, or barricades. They are there to protect you from downed wires or trees.

  • Downed Lines: Assume every downed power line is live. Stay at least 30 feet away and report them immediately.

  • Emergency Calls: Use 911 for life-threatening emergencies only. For non-emergencies, use the local police desk.

Utility & Trash Information

  • Power Outages: Do not call the police for power outages. Report them directly to PSE&G at 800-436-7734.

  • Trash & Recycling: Collection schedules are currently under review. Village officials will provide an update once the severity of the storm has been assessed.

Stay Connected: Monitor the Village of Ridgewood official website and local emergency alerts for real-time updates as the storm progresses.

  3. Does the village have the personnel. They might have to get a contract to help out.

  4. Were they going to haul all that snow from the business section?
